Novation Circuit Mono Station - Product Presentation
The new Mono Circuit Station Synthesizer from Novation is easy to use but packs enough features to expand the studio's range.
Workhorse
Novation is every DJ/producer's best friend. Over time, the manufacturer has created a large number of products supporting every stage of production through to performance, products that make our work easier and more enjoyable. Novation has captivated with Launchpad, Bass Station, Mini, and Ultra Nova Synths, among which the exclusive Morodor Nova version cannot be forgotten.
The company is now back with some new additions: the Peak Hybrid Digital/Analog Synth and the brand-new Mono Circuit Station, the latest addition to its Circuit series.
The original Circuit was a groove box connecting two polysynth Novations and a four-part drum machine. A useful and compact device allowing DJs and producers to quickly create grooves and tracks in an intuitive hardware environment. The new Mono Station is a completely new tool in itself.
The latest creation from Novation is an analog monosynthesizer with paraphonic functionality. In other words, it works with a single sound at a time, unlike polyphonic synthesizers that can process multiple voices simultaneously, but being paraphonic, you can control each of the different oscillators independently - the original source of the synth sounds generating its voice. So, the user can always work on only one sound but has absolute control over it.
Back to Mono
There are plenty of mono synths to choose from. In fact, there's a real sea ranging from the cheapest to the most luxurious and enviable pieces. Roland, Korg, Moog, Dave Smith, and now Pioneer DJ all have at least one product in this category. However, Novation has chosen to take a different path to attract attention, offering unparalleled functionality for this industry.
The first is the 32-pad grid that stands out at the base of the layout, offering instrument or sequencer mode. Although Novation is a desktop synthesizer, it has approached traditional keyboard synthesizers that most of these dedicated sound production machines have always praised.
Novation took inspiration from the size of the original Circuit Groove-Box in developing this model, giving it a fascinating look. Synthesizer enthusiasts have a weakness for eccentric machines, and that can definitely be said of the Circuit Mono.
Character is everything
The top part of the Mono Station is the place where synthesis comes from. Knobs, sliders, and buttons assist in creating and defining sounds. The Circuit borrows its functions from another classic Novation synthesizer: the Bass Station II. This means it goes beyond a simple, updated Bass Station; the Mono Station actually has its own distinctive sound.
One of the most interesting features is the Audio In connection. This allows you to pass sounds from external sources through the Mono Station to utilize its filters and modulations and freely modify them. The filter section of this synthesizer gives character to the sounds.
This, especially the modulation matrix, which can be bypassed to generate different sounds, gives the Mono Station a molecular approach. There are some sound changes that we liked. The large number of connections also makes it a very flexible machine, for example, thanks to the CV functions that allow the Mono Station to control a wide range of analog devices, also thanks to the device's MIDI connections.
Below, the 32 pads follow the layout of the original circuit and expand the application possibilities of the Mono Station. The sequencer section is another highlight of this new synthesizer and is better than we imagined. This outstanding synthesizer will surely find its place in the studios of many DJs and producers.
