Spotlights
Spotlights are used in stage lighting whenever clearly defined light effects are needed. Through a narrow beam angle, you can perfectly illuminate objects during your stage show, project your logo onto the wall, and create many other effects that bring any stage to life. Whether it's individual, sharp-edged light cones or an entire spotlight stage, this lighting technique will get you there.
Where are Spotlights used?
Spotlight lighting technology comes into play wherever targeted illumination without significant scatter effect is needed. Do you have props on stage? With discreet spotlights, you can breathe new life into them. Want to draw attention to yourself as a brand? Throw your logo onto the wall behind you with an appropriate projection template.
The possibilities for using spotlights on stage are numerous, and creativity knows no bounds. Design your stage show according to your vision!
Whether as an event organizer or DJ, with the right selection of stage lighting, your event or show will become an unforgettable experience!
Differences in Spotlights
The range of spotlights is as diverse as their applications. There are different sizes, colors, and light sources.
PAR spotlights come in various standard sizes, defining the diameter of the housing. In addition to the standard size "PAR 64", there are smaller and larger variants. The light sources suitable for the respective spotlight are also labeled with the PAR size specification.
Spotlights work with a narrow beam angle and are available in different variants:
- Very Narrow Spot (VNSP) - Beam angle with less than 10°
- Narrow Spot (NSP) - Approximately 10°
- Wide Spot (WSP) - Angle of about 16°
From about 25°, you're already dealing with floodlights, designed for broad illumination.
Spotlights are available in monochrome, RGB, and also UV variants.
How much does a Spotlight cost?
Entry-level spotlights for private use and small stages start at around 20 euros. In the professional range, you can find models up to 900 euros.
Functionality
Essentially, a spotlight fixture is constructed like a slide or film projector. It consists of a light source, a condenser system, a holder for the projection object, and the projection lens. To limit the light cone, the object holder has four slots for the shutter blades. Some devices can also work with projection templates, known as Gobos.
With the shutter blades, you can limit and adjust the light cone. Usually, slides or painted glass templates also fit into the holder, but these often have inadequate quality.
The projection lens comes in various designs. In addition to a fixed focal length with a movable lens, there is also the option with an adjustable focal length through two lenses movable relative to each other and to the object. A so-called zoom lens.
Choosing Light Sources
Spotlights can easily be implemented with halogen light sources, but LEDs are also suitable, although the quality of the fixture is important. The latter clearly have the energy advantage over the halogen variant! Also, the heat development of LED light sources is significantly lower.
