Moving Heads
No great light show without Moving Headlights. The movable spotlights feature countless effects and can be programmed with pinpoint precision. These technical all-rounders are not only used in large stage shows but are also increasingly popular in small clubs and discos.
Moving headlight machines are used not only in concerts, stage shows, musicals, and nightclubs but also in TV productions and theatrical performances. The technology was first used in a concert in 1981 and has since made a remarkable breakthrough.
All-in-One Package
The movable spotlights combine almost all common light effects in one machine. Continuous movements are just as possible as mixing various colors. LED moving lights feature CMY or RGB color mixing, allowing completely customizable colors to be created.
The so-called Gobos, interchangeable metal plates, enable different patterns according to preference. Moving heads can be controlled in series in Master/Slave mode without programming. Or, particularly popular among club owners, in Sound to Light mode. An integrated microphone ensures suitable movements and color changes according to sound.
The Big Brother of Scanners
A Moving Head is very similar to a scanner. However, as the name suggests, only the head with the light source moves. In scanners, the light is deflected by a movable mirror. Moving head machines experience no light loss compared to scanners and have a significantly larger and wider operating range.
Various Types of Moving Headlights
Spot
Spot Moving Headlights refer to head-moving spotlights with a spot-like beam angle with sharp edges.
Gobos are thus particularly clearly displayed, and therefore spot-moving heads are used in any good stage show.
Wash
Wash Moving Headlights have a rather wide beam angle and allow for illuminating large areas. Nowadays, there are also combinations of wash and spot-moving heads. The beam angle of hybrid moving heads can then be adjusted as desired.
Beam
Beam Moving Headlights have a beam angle of about three to five degrees and are often used as "accentuators." There are also hybrid solutions here.
Investment is Worthwhile
Moving headlights are available in various price categories, and generally, light machines are not exactly cheap. However, the investment is worthwhile. Thanks to the latest LED technology, moving headlights are particularly energy-efficient despite bright and rich colors. Furthermore, they combine almost all lighting effects and render the purchase of one or more lighting devices unnecessary.
Which Moving Headlight is Right for Me?
Depending on needs, desires, and areas of use, there is the right type of moving headlights for everyone. Discotheque operators and DJs prefer the spot function. Therefore, a LED moving head, which is not particularly heavy and large, is often used.
Event technicians often need rather large moving heads that can cover a large area.
