Freefloat has just launched the Freeview, an easy-to-use tool that blocks the sunlight from the displays of the Pioneer CDJ-1000 and CDJ-800 series. Of course you can also use this light shade with other Pioneer CDJ-Player, e.g. the CDJ-350, CDJ-850 or the CDJ-900 NXS.Nowadays sunlight on the display of cd-players can be one of the biggest problems for deejays at work, as it makes it unable to read the information from the display. The Freeview can be connected within a second and blocks all the sunlight, without affecting your work space. No more needing to block the sunlight with your hand when reading the display!Furthermore each Freeview has specific space for a promotional sticker on the side facing the crowd and photographers. Each pair will be provided with a set of 8 printable stickers that fit to any A4 printer. On the website www.freefloat.net you will find an online application to design your logo, artwork, web address and sponsors on these stickers, whenever you want and wherever you are.The Freeview has a set of small magnets, which are attached to the plastic baffle. This way every deejay can easily attach their own at the moment they start their set. Within a second the dj-booth is customized. As the Freeview will appear on every picture that is taken of the deejay, none will stay anonymous anymore after a great set!

Accessories for DJ Equipment

Mixer, controller, player – the foundation is there. But it’s only the right accessories that turn it into a setup that really works: stable, well thought-out, and tailored to your style. Whether you want to protect your equipment, expand it, or repair it – in this category you’ll find everything that makes a difference alongside the main units.

Protection: Decksaver & dust covers
A spilled drink in the club booth, dust in the home studio, scratches during transport – DJ equipment can take quite a bit, but you don’t have to put it through unnecessary strain. That’s why dust protection covers, above all the well-known Decksaver covers, are among the most sensible investments you can make.
These covers are made from impact-resistant polycarbonate – the same material that’s also used in bulletproof glass. They fit precisely over controllers, mixers, or players without having to unplug any cables. Remove, place on, done. Many international clubs and studios have relied on them for years.
What does a Decksaver protect specifically?
- Faders, potentiometers, and pads from dust and liquids
- Displays and jog wheels from scratches during transport
- The entire surface from accidental bumps
- Resale value – well-cared-for equipment is worth more
Important when buying: Decksavers are model-specific. Before purchasing, always check the exact name of your device – even within a series there can be differences. Pioneer DJ, Denon DJ, Allen & Heath, Native Instruments, and many other manufacturers are covered.
Replacement parts: Faders, pots & others
Mechanical components wear out – that’s not a question of “if”, but of “when”. Crossfaders and linefaders are often the first candidates when used intensively. A jerky or worn-out fader sounds like a minor issue, but it can become a big problem in the middle of a gig.
The good news: Many replacement parts can be swapped yourself without soldering skills. For common models from Pioneer DJ, Allen & Heath, Rane, and other manufacturers, you’ll find both original parts and high-quality upgrade options.
The most common wear parts at a glance
| Component | Typical problem | Note |
|---|---|---|
| Crossfader | Jittering, scratching, lack of precision | Often available as an upgrade (e.g. innoFADER) |
| Linefader | Worn out, no clean curve | Order model-specific |
| Potentiometer / EQ control | Scratching when turning, dropouts | Soldering work required depending on the model |
| Fader caps & pot caps | Worn, broken, visually unattractive | Easiest replacement, no tools needed |
A tip: Many manufacturers provide service manuals and exploded diagrams online. These are enormously helpful for identifying the right replacement part and avoiding incorrect purchases. The exact part number from the manual is worth its weight in gold when searching.
If you’re already replacing your crossfader, you can take along an upgrade at the same time. Aftermarket faders like the innoFADER offer significantly more precision and adjustability than many series components – a real gain for scratch DJs.

Assembly & rack solutions
If you work with multiple devices at the same time, you know the problem: everything ends up somehow on the table, cables cross each other, and nothing is really within reach. Mount kits and rack systems bring order to your setup – and not just visually.
With the right mounting, you can position controllers, mixers, and effect modules ergonomically: at the right height, at the right angle, secure enough for live use. This not only spares your nerves, but also your back during long sessions.
For mobile use it applies: a securely mounted setup goes up faster, comes down faster, and survives more transports unharmed. Especially with regular changes of location, a well thought-out mounting system pays off quickly.
Typical use cases
- Combine controller + mixer: Mount kits allow space-saving stacking of both devices in the tightest of rooms
- Organise synthesizer modules: Racks for Korg Volca, Teenage Engineering Pocket Operator, or similar small devices keep everything neat
- Stationary studio setup: Fixed mounts for permanently cabled devices make setup and wiring considerably easier
Appearance & ergonomics: custom kits and faceplates
Not every modification is a repair – sometimes it’s simply about making your setup more individual. Swappable faceplates, custom knobs, or colored fader caps change the appearance of a controller noticeably without changing anything about its function.
Ergonomically sensible adjustments are especially useful when the original layout shows weaknesses while performing: controls placed too close together, caps that are hard to grip when there’s moisture, or faders whose standard curve doesn’t match your personal style. If you do a lot with headphones while also keeping an eye on the knobs, you quickly notice which little things become annoying during long sets.
Important: Custom kits and faceplates are almost always developed to be model-specific. Before buying, always check whether the desired product is actually compatible with your device – not only with the model line, but with the exact hardware revision.
What to look for when buying?
DJ accessories sound straightforward at first – but especially with replacement parts and perfectly matching components, there’s quite a lot to consider so you don’t end up buying twice.
| Category | What to look for |
|---|---|
| Protection covers | Check the exact model name – not just the series, but also the revision (MK2, NXS2 etc.) |
| Replacement parts | Use the service manual, match the part number, and pay attention to original parts versus compatible parts |
| Fader upgrades | Check compatibility with your mixer/controller; setting the curve is a big advantage |
| Mount kits | Consider load capacity and dimensions; screws and mounting material should be included |
| Custom kits | Only for the exact specified model – often not even compatible with the predecessor generation |
If you’re unsure, it’s worth taking a look at the manufacturer’s service manual or sending a quick request to the shop. Especially with older equipment, it’s better to ask once than to order a part that doesn’t fit.
