Product description RME Fireface UCX II

With the RME Fireface UCX II, you get a portable USB audio interface that combines, in a small space, many connection options, flexible signal routing, and standalone operation. The half-19-inch device is aimed at applications in the studio, in mobile recording, and in live settings, where you don’t want to give up on professional connection variety. Two Mic/Line inputs, two Line/Instrument inputs, additional analog Line I/Os, as well as ADAT, AES/EBU, SPDIF, Word Clock and MIDI ensure that the interface fits into very different setups. This is complemented by TotalMix FX, DURec for direct recording to USB storage, and SteadyClock FS for clean clocking.

RME Fireface UCX II - Compact Size

Compact, but open to large setups

RME combines a very compact format here with equipment that goes far beyond classic desktop solutions. The device provides you with 40 channels for recording and playback and connects analog and digital sources without detours. On the front, you work directly with two Mic/Line preamps in the XLR combo format and two Line/Instrument inputs; on the back, you have additional balanced Line inputs and outputs for outboard gear, synths, monitors, or permanently wired studio connections.

Especially then, when your setup grows, this RME solution remains an interesting option. ADAT, AES/EBU, SPDIF coaxial, Word Clock and MIDI open up many possibilities for expansion, integration of external converters, or synchronisation of multiple devices. This creates an interface that not only fits your needs today, but also keeps its place in more complex production environments.

RME Fireface UCX II - Standalone Function

Direct access without detours

The Fireface model is not dependent on being permanently connected to a computer. Using front buttons, encoders, and a colour display, you control important functions directly on the device. The standalone function is particularly practical: multiple device states can be saved in the internal memory, so you can quickly recall different working environments.

This is especially useful when you switch between recording, live use, and fixed routing. Instead of having to configure everything again each time, you call up prepared setups and carry on immediately. This direct usability makes the interface not only more flexible, but also more practical in everyday situations where things need to happen quickly.

RME Fireface UCX II - Recording Features

Recording without a computer

With DURec, the interface becomes more than just a switching hub. The integrated recording function writes all inputs and outputs directly to a USB storage medium via the connection on the rear. That way, you use the device as a standalone recorder for rehearsals, concerts, sessions, or virtual sound checks—without a Mac or PC having to run.

Playback of already recorded tracks in a live context is also very interesting. Channels can be selected specifically for recording and playback, giving you significantly more freedom in practical use. For mobile applications or smaller production environments, it saves you paths, devices, and additional sources of error.

RME Fireface UCX II - Routing Options

Routing, monitoring, and control

TotalMix FX is one of the points that has made RME interfaces so versatile for years. You get an extensive mixing and monitoring environment with latency-free monitor mixes, routing options, and integrated effects such as EQ, dynamics, reverb, and delay. This allows you to set up headphone mixes, monitor paths, and various output scenarios very precisely.

On top of that, there’s DigiCheck for precise analysis and measurement tasks. This is particularly valuable when you want to cleanly monitor levels, digital signals, or complex routings. For many setups, this combination of hardware and software replaces an additional external mixer or meaningfully extends existing workflows.

RME Fireface UCX II - Sync Options

Clean clock, well thought-out outputs

With SteadyClock FS, RME relies on a very precise clock architecture with strong jitter suppression. For you, that means stable synchronisation in the digital chain and a reliable basis for ADAT-, AES-, SPDIF-, or Word Clock setups. Especially when multiple digital devices work together, this is a point that makes a clear difference in everyday use.

In addition, the interface offers DC-coupled outputs. This is particularly interesting if you work with CV/Gate and want to integrate modular systems. With this, the device doesn’t just appeal to classic recording and mixing environments, but also to users who want to bring audio and control signals together flexibly in a central hub.

RME Fireface UCX II - Front Back Detail

Universal Audio VOLT 476 Top View
Universal Audio VOLT 476

Compact USB audio interface for anyone who wants to bring recordings cleanly, quickly, and without detours into your computer: With the Universal Audio VOLT 476, you set up a reliable 4-channel setup for vocals and instruments – on Mac, PC, iPad, or iPhone. Four inputs and four outputs give you enough flexibility for small band setups, stereo sources, or multiple signals at the same time. Thanks to 24-bit/192 kHz, you get conversion that makes details audible without having to fight your way through complicated menus. With this interface, Universal Audio combines modern converter technology with two sound options that you can activate directly on the device. For every recording, you decide whether you want a deliberately neutral, transparent sound or prefer to capture character and dynamic control while tracking. The device also works great as a monitor controller: inputs and outputs can be monitored effectively while you work with direct monitoring without noticeable latency. Character at the push of a button instead of a plugin marathon With the integrated Vintage Mode, you get a 610 Tube Mic Preamp emulation directly in your signal path. Especially for vocals, electric guitar, or bass, this delivers more fullness and a pleasantly tangible tone without you having to search for the right plugin during recording. You can deactivate the mode at any time and get the clear, uncolored basic sound of the interface. What’s practical is that you don’t have to “commit” to the sound: depending on the project, you can switch between neutral and colored and focus on performance and arrangement while recording. This is especially helpful when you want to capture ideas quickly or try out different tones before moving on to mixing. Keep dynamics under control before they become a problem You can also activate a 76 Analog Compressor, inspired by a classic 1176 limiter. This lets you tame level peaks directly at the source and give vocals or instruments more presence. Instead of countless parameters, you use suitable presets that address typical applications such as vocals, guitars, synths, or drum machines.Especially for streaming, podcasts, or quick vocal takes, this is a real advantage: the signal stays controlled without you having to build a long effect chain in your DAW first. And if you prefer to record completely “clean,” simply leave the compression off – the choice is yours. Monitoring that keeps up with you When recording, a stable and direct feel is essential. Direct monitoring ensures latency-free recording, while you can monitor loudly and cleanly via the headphone output. The headphone amplifier is designed for clear monitoring so you can accurately judge what’s really happening, even with dynamic signals.48 V phantom power is available for condenser microphones. This makes your setup flexible: from speech microphones to vocals and acoustic instruments. And because the housing is built robustly, the interface remains reliable even when it often ends up in your backpack. More than hardware: creative start with software bundle So you don’t have to start from scratch, an extensive package of DAW, UAD plug-ins, and third-party tools is included. The combination of LUNA and effects such as EQs, channel strips, reverb, tape emulations, and instruments gives you a ready-to-work setup for recording and mixing right away. You also get well-known names like Ableton Live Lite and Melodyne Essential, plus amp and bass tools for guitar and bass tracks.Mobile use is also supported: with iPad/iPhone (iOS/iPadOS 14 or higher), you can record on the go – you’ll need an external power supply and an Apple Lightning to USB Camera Adapter (except iPad Pros with USB-C). This keeps your workflow consistent, whether on desktop or on the move. MIDI integrated directly Via the 1x1 MIDI I/O, you connect controllers, synthesizers, or drum machines without additional adapters. This way, you control virtual instruments in your DAW or synchronize external equipment cleanly with your setup. Simply connect and get started The interface comes with a USB-C to USB-A cable and can be quickly integrated into existing setups. For iPad and iPhone, mobile operation is possible if you use an external power supply and – depending on the device – the appropriate camera adapter. Features VOLT 476 Compact USB 2.0 audio interface with 4 in/4 out for versatile recording and playback Compatible with Mac, PC, iPad and iPhone; mobile use possible with external power supply and adapter 24-bit/192 kHz audio conversion for detailed recordings Vintage Mic Preamp mode as an emulation of the 610 tube preamp for optional character during recording Switchable analog 76 compressor with presets for quick dynamic control of recording sources Direct monitoring for latency-free playing and recording High-quality headphone amplifier for loud, clean monitoring 48 V phantom power for condenser microphones 2 combo inputs for mic/instrument/line plus additional line inputs for flexible signal sources Monitor controller function for separate monitoring of input and output signals MIDI I/O (1x1) for synths, controllers and external equipment Rugged housing for reliable use in the studio and on the go Includes extensive software package from Universal Audio and third-party providers for recording, mixing and sound design USB-C to USB-A cable included for immediate start on your computer Technical Data Type USB 2.0 audio interface Inputs/Outputs 4 In | 4 Out Inputs 2 mic/instrument/line combo (XLR/6.3 mm jack) | 2 line (6.3 mm jack) Outputs 4 line (6.3 mm jack) Headphones Stereo headphone output (6.3 mm jack) MIDI 1 MIDI In | 1 MIDI Out USB USB-C port Power Supply 5V DC input for power adapter Conversion 24-bit/192 kHz Phantom Power 48 V Compatibility Windows 10 (64-bit) | macOS 10.14 Mojave or higher | iOS/iPadOS 14 or higher Weight 0.92 kg Dimensions (W x D x H) 212 x 132 x 66 mm Scope of Delivery Universal Audio VOLT 476 USB audio interface USB-C to USB-A cable External power adapter Large Software Package Included Ableton Live Lite Softube Marshall Plexi Classic Amp Softube Time & Tone Bundle Celemony Melodyne Essential Relab LX480 Essentials Plugin Alliance Ampeg SVT-VR Classic Brainworx bx_tuner and Brainworx bx_masterdesk Classic UJAM Virtual Drummer DEEP and Virtual Bassist DANDY Spitfire LABS

Roland Rubix 44

The Roland Rubix 44 is an extremely versatile 4-channel USB audio interface, perfect for both studio and mobile use. With its robust metal housing, it is ideal for portable applications and can easily be stored in a bag. Thanks to USB class compatibility, you can even connect the interface directly to an iPad and skip the laptop. It offers impressive sound quality, even in challenging recording environments. The four microphone preamps of the Rubix 44 provide exceptional clarity and ensure that your recordings sound precise and clean, even in less-than-optimal conditions. With thoughtful features like a ground lift switch and an integrated dynamic processor, high-quality sound can be achieved directly at the recording location. Roland has equipped the Rubix 44 with specially shielded components that minimize interference with the signal. If power line noise still occurs, the ground lift switch ensures that annoying hum is reliably removed – a feature rarely found in this price range. Another practical highlight is the integrated dynamic processing. With three modes of compressor/limiter circuits, you can adjust your recording levels beforehand, reducing the need for post-production and saving time. This feature is especially valuable when working with live sounds, where unexpected level spikes often compromise recording quality. Thanks to additional features like MIDI I/O and loopback recording, the Rubix 44 offers even more flexibility for various applications, from music production to podcasting. The interface is compatible with Mac, Windows, and iOS and comes with a 6-month Roland Cloud Pro membership, offering even more creative possibilities. Audient EVO SP8 Front View
Audient EVO SP8

Eight additional microphone preamps, state-of-the-art signal conversion, and thoughtful control – with the EVO SP8, Audient expands your audio setup with exactly the functions that matter in everyday studio use. Via ADAT, you seamlessly integrate the preamp expander into your existing interface and immediately get eight high-quality input channels with clear operation and well-designed features. Inside, eight analog, digitally controlled EVO preamps deliver up to 58 dB gain. This allows even low-level signals to be amplified noise-free and precisely. The concept shows its strengths especially when using stereo microphones: The digital control enables exact gain matching between channel pairs, ideal for demanding recordings. Channels can also be linked to stereo pairs at the push of a button. Two additional inputs are designed as JFET instrument inputs. They simulate the behavior of a classic guitar amplifier and are therefore perfect for direct connection of electric guitar or bass. The internal signal conversion works with 24 bit / 96 kHz at up to 121 dB dynamic range – the result is detailed, transparent recordings with clear spatial representation. A central feature of the system is Smartgain: With a press of a button, EVO SP8 automatically analyzes all active channels and sets the optimal gain value – simultaneously and without your intervention. This allows complex setups like drum recordings to be done quickly and safely. It saves time and protects against clipping or too low signals. Everything is controlled via the Motion UI system with a high-resolution TFT-LCD and a single control knob. The interface shows you all relevant parameters – like gain level, channel names, or level meters – clearly at a glance. The brightness can be adjusted to your studio. Activating phantom power, instrument mode, or mute also happens intuitively and without menu confusion.
