Vestax PDX-3000 Mix

To play pitches on a vinyl record via MIDI, the platter speed must be controllable in real time. The Vestax PDX-3000 Mix combines a direct-drive DJ turntable with MIDI-controlled platter speed: an external MIDI device such as a keyboard or sequencer can change the speed while a record plays a steady note.

For MIDI operation, connect an external device to the MIDI input and activate the mode by pressing the two buttons for 33⅓ and 45 rpm. The incoming MIDI data then controls the rotation. This allows the sound being played to produce different pitches – an approach for turntablism, live performance and electronic music production in which vinyl and MIDI work together.

When mixing and scratching, you can adapt the motor to your working style. The adjustable torque can be reduced, and the start-up acceleration and braking speed can also be adjusted. According to the specifications, the electronic direct drive reaches its speed in 0.5 seconds at 33⅓ rpm; the starting torque is 2.7 kg·cm.

The S-shaped tonearm is designed as an anti-skipping system and uses dynamic-static balance. For manual speed adjustment, a pitch range of ±10% without a centre detent and Ultra-Pitch at ±50% are available. Quartz Lock holds the speed at the quartz-regulated target value, while reverse playback reverses the direction of rotation.

The RCA outputs connect to a mixer or phono input; a separate ground terminal helps prevent hum in the phono connection. There is also a MIDI connection and a mini-jack socket for an external momentary switch to start and stop playback. A removable platter light is available as an optional accessory.

The plastic chassis and dimensions of 454 × 365 × 162 mm make this model a standalone part of a DJ or performance setup.
