DJ-Tech Wireless USB-Controller Mix Free

If you want to control your DJ software away from your laptop, the DJ-Tech Wireless Mix Free combines a wireless controller with a USB receiver. The battery-powered device controls two decks via USB-MIDI and is designed for use with Deckadance LE on PC and Mac. This lets you operate basic mixing functions while keeping your computer at the DJ position.

You control the two decks using faders, jog wheels and buttons. In normal mode, the jog wheels let you quickly search through the current track; activate Scratch mode and you can use them to scratch. Pitch faders and Bend buttons adjust pitch and pitch bend. For direct sound adjustments, each deck has a 3-band EQ with Kill buttons.

For cueing, synchronisation and transitions, there are Cue, Sync and Play/Pause buttons, as well as an Auto-BPM function. The Auto-Mix button controls the automatic crossfader function between Deck A and B. In Effect mode, the pitch faders and Bend buttons are used to select and control effects. The rotary wheels on the sides make track selection easier; blue displays show status and track information.

Four buttons per deck can be used for samples or auto-loops. In Sample mode, they access the respective sampler slots in Deckadance; in Loop mode, they activate loops of different lengths. A beatmatch display with eight LEDs shows the beats of the two decks. Hold mode locks the buttons so that inputs are not triggered accidentally while you move the controller.

The USB receiver connects to the computer; the controller and receiver connect automatically when switched on. The stated wireless range indoors is 15 to 20 metres. The wireless connection does not replace an audio connection: the Mix Free sends control data to the DJ software. The controller requires two 1.5 V C-type LR14 batteries, which are not included. A screw socket on the underside allows you to mount it on a microphone stand.

With its compact format, wireless operation and stand mount, the controller is suitable for setups where you want to move away from your computer while mixing. The included Deckadance LE software is designed for PC and Mac and supports control of tracks in MP3, WAV and OGG formats. Controller, USB receiver and software provide the basis for a mobile two-deck setup.
