With the Audient ASP880 you get a flexible and powerful control center for your microphone and line signals. In a compact 1RU housing, the device combines eight fully equipped Class-A microphone preamps with thoughtful features and a high-quality A/D converter – developed with the goal to make studio quality tangible. The core circuit comes directly from the large Audient consoles, refined over years by developer legend David Dearden. Each channel offers you 60 dB of low-noise gain, selectable input impedances (220, 1200, or 2800 Ohms) and a sweepable high-pass filter, which can be adjusted continuously from 25 to 250 Hz. This lets you adapt the input signal precisely to your microphones and recording situation. For especially hot levels – such as kick or snare mics – -10 dB pads are available on the first two channels. A switchable phase inversion ensures that your multi-mic setups sound coherent and powerful. On the front you will also find two discrete JFET DI inputs, ideal for bass or guitar. The high input impedance of 1 MOhm preserves the natural tonal character of your instruments and adds a pleasant analog coloration if needed. Especially practical: thanks to the insert points between preamp and converter, external hardware can be integrated seamlessly. Alternatively, you can also use the device as a standalone A/D converter via the A-D switch. Inside works a Burr Brown ADC with up to 115 dB dynamic range, which provides digital outputs via ADAT, AES, or S/PDIF. Whether you use the Audient model as an extension for your interface or as a standalone front end – the quality of the conversion and the thoughtful operation speak for themselves. The robust all-metal housing with precisely machined aluminum knobs completes the professional claim. Studio-level sound quality starts at the input signal – this is exactly where the ASP800 comes in. This 8-channel microphone preamp with integrated A/D converter is a well-thought-out extension for any audio interface that has an ADAT input. With its eight discrete Class-A preamps, developed based on the renowned Audient console technology, it ensures a clean and detailed sound – whether for voice recordings, acoustic instruments, or line signals. The first two channels offer special flexibility. Dedicated JFET instrument inputs allow you to connect guitars and basses directly, with an input impedance of 1 MΩ ensuring an authentic playing feel. Additionally, these channels feature two retro circuits with HMX and IRON that enable targeted harmonic saturation. HMX creates a warm, organic tonal coloration through discrete MOSFET technology, while IRON adds punch and airiness in the highs through a specially developed transformer – inspired by the sound of British analog gear from the 1970s. Another key feature is the integrated Burr-Brown converters, offering a dynamic range of 116 dB. Conversion is done via ADAT up to 96 kHz, with the ASP800 operating optionally as a master or slave clock source. This allows seamless integration into existing setups. Useful details include switchable pads, polarity reverse on channels 1 and 2, and individual phantom power per channel – for maximum control during recording. The analog outputs are implemented as a balanced DB25 connector and allow parallel routing to external processors or analog mixers. The solid, fanless design ensures not only absolute noise-free operation but also long-term reliability. Eight additional microphone preamps, state-of-the-art signal conversion, and thoughtful control – with the EVO SP8, Audient expands your audio setup with exactly the functions that matter in everyday studio use. Via ADAT, you seamlessly integrate the preamp expander into your existing interface and immediately get eight high-quality input channels with clear operation and well-designed features. Inside, eight analog, digitally controlled EVO preamps deliver up to 58 dB gain. This allows even low-level signals to be amplified noise-free and precisely. The concept shows its strengths especially when using stereo microphones: The digital control enables exact gain matching between channel pairs, ideal for demanding recordings. Channels can also be linked to stereo pairs at the push of a button. Two additional inputs are designed as JFET instrument inputs. They simulate the behavior of a classic guitar amplifier and are therefore perfect for direct connection of electric guitar or bass. The internal signal conversion works with 24 bit / 96 kHz at up to 121 dB dynamic range – the result is detailed, transparent recordings with clear spatial representation. A central feature of the system is Smartgain: With a press of a button, EVO SP8 automatically analyzes all active channels and sets the optimal gain value – simultaneously and without your intervention. This allows complex setups like drum recordings to be done quickly and safely. It saves time and protects against clipping or too low signals. Everything is controlled via the Motion UI system with a high-resolution TFT-LCD and a single control knob. The interface shows you all relevant parameters – like gain level, channel names, or level meters – clearly at a glance. The brightness can be adjusted to your studio. Activating phantom power, instrument mode, or mute also happens intuitively and without menu confusion.
