Alesis Sound Processor Ineko

An external effects unit should be quick to integrate into the signal path in a studio or DJ setup. The Alesis Ineko is a compact desktop stereo multi-effects unit with 48 factory programmes, including reverb, delay, pitch, filter and other special effects. The labelling on the unit and an LED display help you select effects without navigating menus.

Use the programme buttons to switch between effect groups and individual programmes. Three rotary controls adjust the parameters assigned to them; their function depends on the selected effect. For example, you can change the frequency or resonance for filters and adjust the relevant effect parameters for delays. A bypass button switches off the effects path so that the direct signal remains audible.

Alongside reverb, delay and filters, the range of effects also includes pitch and modulation effects, as well as lo-fi, distortion and other special programmes. These include, for example, a vinyl noise simulator, a vocoder and a sub-bass effect. Each programme processes one effect; the three controls adjust its parameters.

For connections, stereo 6.35 mm jack connections are provided: one input and one output for each stereo side, using mono jack sockets. You can connect the Ineko via a mixer’s effect send and return or an insert, for example. Connecting an instrument or microphone is also possible; the signal must be set to the appropriate level, as the unit is an effects processor and not a microphone preamp.

Conversion is performed at 24-bit/44.1 kHz, while internal signal processing operates at 28-bit. The combination of 48 fixed effect programmes, direct parameter control and stereo inputs and outputs is suited to studio recordings and DJ setups where you want to control reverb, delay or distinctive special effects using a separate unit.
