From DJ turntable to sound reinforcement technology
The roots lie with the Belgian company Beglec, which has been distributing sound and lighting equipment since 1961. Under the name Synq Audio Research, a brand for professional audio equipment was created in 2003; the XTRM-1 DJ turntable defined this early phase. Since 2014, Synq has focused on professional PA and audio technology. This development explains why the brand is not defined by a single device today, but by components that can be combined for sound reinforcement tasks.
Product development takes place in Belgium. For loudspeaker drivers, Synq works with European suppliers such as Beyma and Faital Pro on individual designs. While this does not automatically guarantee the sound of a complete system, it demonstrates the orientation: loudspeakers, amplification, and installation technology should be logically matched for professional use.
A PA begins with the right system concept
At Synq, active and passive PA speakers, subwoofers, power amplifiers, and signal processors belong to the same product world. This is particularly useful for you if you are not just replacing a single speaker, but need to plan level reserves, coverage, cabling, and transport together. A compact system for speech and background music has different requirements than a setup for DJ sets or live music.
Active speakers bundle the amplifier and signal processing within the enclosure. This reduces the effort of cabling and keeps small to medium-sized mobile setups clear and simple. Passive speakers, on the other hand, require a separate power amplifier. They fit well if power amplifiers are located in a rack, several speaker channels are centrally supplied, or the system is permanently installed. In both cases, it is not just the wattage that counts: impedance, power handling, dispersion characteristics, and the planned reach must match.
Subwoofers, tops, and crossovers
A subwoofer does not simply supplement a top system with more bass. It handles a limited frequency range and relieves the top units so that they can work more clearly at higher levels. For this transition, the system requires a sensible crossover frequency, appropriate level ratios, and correct phase alignment. Especially with mobile systems, this fine-tuning often determines the overall impression more strongly than a larger loudspeaker alone. Suitable PA subwoofers are therefore not accessories to be considered at the very end.
Power amplifiers and signal processing as a technical basis
Synq builds amplifiers in various power classes and with practical operating modes such as stereo, mono, or bridge mode. For high-performance models, protective circuits, limiters, and the monitoring of important operating values are part of the concept. This is important for rentals, club operation, or longer events because incorrect operation, excessively low load impedance, or overheating should not only be noticed when a channel fails.
For a passive loudspeaker system, the power amplifier should match the actual load. This includes the impedance of the connected boxes, the required continuous power, and sufficient reserve for peaks. Bridge mode is not a general power switch: it requires an amplifier suitable for this purpose, a suitable load, and cabling that can withstand the higher demands. If several paths, subwoofers, and tops are controlled separately, planning usually leads to a PA power amplifier with several channels or to several amplifiers in the rack.
Signal processors and interfaces take on tasks that a mixer alone cannot solve: separating frequencies, adjusting delay times, limiting levels, or integrating audio signals into a digital network. Such devices are not only worthwhile for large systems. They also make a smaller multi-way system more predictable, provided that presets and parameters really match the loudspeaker combination used.
What you should look for in Synq systems
- Application and range: Room size, number of listeners, music style, and desired level determine the system size. A system for speech does not need the same reserves as a PA for electronic music.
- Active or passive: Active systems are set up quickly. Passive solutions offer more freedom with racks, cabling, and the division of several speaker paths.
- System connections: Check signal paths, speaker connections, and cable lengths before purchasing. Especially with separate power amplifiers, Speakon cabling is also part of the planning.
- Transport and assembly: Weight, handles, protective covers, flying hardware, or wall mounts are practical criteria for mobile teams and installations, not a side issue.
- Protection and level reserves: Limiters do not protect against every incorrect setting. Sensible reserves and correctly set crossovers are the better foundation for clean sound under high load.
Who Synq is for
Synq suits DJs, event organizers, rental companies, and operators of small to medium-sized venues who want to plan their sound reinforcement technically and value a clear system structure. The brand is less of a closed software ecosystem and more of a hardware platform for audio: loudspeakers, amplification, processors, cables, and cases must be selected according to the application and combined correctly.
If your setup also integrates DJ mixers, playback devices, or microphones, the planning begins at the output of the mixing console and does not end at the first power amplifier. Balanced signal lines, sensible gain staging, and a sufficiently dimensioned power supply prevent many typical problems such as hum, distortion, or unnecessary failures. For safe transport, suitable flightcases are also part of the setup, especially if equipment is regularly assembled and dismantled.
