Hercules DJ Console MK4

Two separate stereo outputs are available for the main mix and cueing. The Hercules DJ Console MK4 combines a two-deck controller with an integrated audio interface and is designed for computer-based DJ sets. You can also connect external players to the mix via the two stereo inputs.

Outputs 1–2 carry the main mix via RCA or a 3.5 mm stereo jack to a mixer, hi-fi system or multimedia speakers. The signal from channels 3–4 is available at a 6.35 mm headphone jack and also at RCA outputs for active speakers. This lets you cue the next track separately while the main mix continues to play.

Connect turntables or line-level sources to the two stereo inputs, each with two RCA sockets. Phono, consumer, professional and amplified line levels are supported; integrated phono preamps at the inputs eliminate the need for a separate phono preamp for compatible turntables. A microphone input with a 6.35 mm jack, level control and talk-over function completes the setup: when you speak, the music can be lowered automatically.

Two jogwheels, three faders, eleven rotary controls and 36 transport buttons are provided to control the two software decks. In the included VirtualDJ DJC Edition, you can beat-match tracks using the pitch control or Sync button, set automatic loops of one, two or four beats, add effects and record your mix as an audio file. Cue points are displayed when the audio files are analysed.

The console connects to the computer via a USB port that supplies power. ASIO and WDM drivers are provided for Windows, and Core Audio for Mac OS; MIDI control is supported on both platforms. The original minimum requirements for the bundled software are Windows XP, Vista or 7 (32 or 64 bit) or Mac OS 10.4, 10.5 or 10.6, a processor of at least 1.5 GHz, at least 1 GB RAM and a USB port. You will also need stereo speakers and/or headphones. These system requirements refer to the operating systems available at the time.

Weighing 1.15 kg and with compact dimensions, the device is easy to transport for mobile use; a transport cover and shoulder strap are included. It is suited to computer-based two-deck sets where you want to connect external players, cue the main mix separately and deliver microphone announcements through the same device.
