Feeltune Controller Rhizome LE

If sequencing, sampling and mixing are to be handled directly via a hardware surface, the Feeltune Rhizome LE Controller works with the Rhizome Host2 software. This hybrid production system runs on a computer and controls the host software and supported plug-ins via pads, rotary encoders, buttons and several integrated display areas.

The control surface features 16 velocity-sensitive, illuminated pads, 32 endless push encoders and additional illuminated buttons. Three narrow display areas and a wider screen show information about the workspaces. This lets you control sequences, instruments, effects and mixer parameters via the hardware.

The multitrack sequencer records notes and events in real time or step by step. You can arrange patterns and add your own automation; Song Record is used to record, edit and export arrangements. You can output finished projects as a master track or as individual tracks, then continue working on them in a DAW.

In DJ mode, two projects run in parallel: while one song is playing, you can load or prepare another project and connect playback without interruption. The projects are synchronised automatically; you also have access to level, mixer, insert and EQ parameters. You can trigger patterns from both projects, including via an external MIDI controller.

The virtual mixer handles up to 64 stereo instrument tracks and includes eight stereo subgroups and six aux buses. The sampler supports WAV and AIFF files. Use the Direct Browser to import and load projects, samples and MIDI files; you can preview samples before loading them. You can save, play back and edit automation.

The software supports VST 2.4 on Windows and Audio Units on Mac OS X. The stated minimum requirements for Windows 7 (32 or 64-bit) are an Intel Core Duo or AMD Athlon 64 X2 and 2 GB RAM. On Mac, OS X 10.6 or 10.7, an Intel Core Duo and 2 GB RAM are also required.

The controller is suitable for computer-based music production and DJ sets where the sequencer, sampler and mixer are to be controlled via a shared surface. The main factors to consider when choosing it are the Host2 software, the DJ mode for two projects and the stated older operating system requirements.
