DJ-Tech Controller U2 Station

If you want to route two USB music sources directly to two decks and DJ without a separate player-and-mixer setup, the DJ-Tech U2 Station combines two USB players and a mixer in one device. Both decks can play tracks from the same USB storage device; the backlit LCD displays track and folder information, as well as time, BPM and pitch.

The two USB ports for storage devices support USB 1.0, 1.1 and 2.0. MP3 files with constant or variable bit rates (CBR and VBR) can be played. Track and folder search let you find the music you want; ID3 information such as track, genre and bit rate is displayed. Both decks access the same USB source, so you do not necessarily need two separate storage devices.

Large jogwheels are available for scratching and pitch bending during transitions and creative adjustments. The pitch control can be set to ±4, ±8 or ±16 per cent; the pitch display makes it easier to monitor. Auto BPM detects the tempo, and you can enter the value manually using Tap if needed. Master Tempo keeps the pitch unchanged when you change the tempo.

With cue points, real-time cue and seamless loop, you can set playback points while a track is playing and repeat sections without an audible interruption. Reloop restarts the loop; the Stutter Start function resumes playback from the cue point. Three digital effects with real-time control are available for adjustments to the mix as it plays, including Flanger, Filter, Echo and Brake. Loop and cue functions act directly on playback.

The integrated two-channel mixer has a three-band EQ with a kill function on each channel and a crossfader with an adjustable curve. There are also two external phono/line inputs for turntables or line-level devices; you can switch between the input types as required. A USB port connects the device to a computer, which recognises it as a USB audio codec. This lets you record the main output signal on your computer. The RCA master output and USB audio connection provide for connection to a sound system and recording via a computer.

With its compact dimensions and weight of 2.2 kg, the U2 Station is suitable for mobile use as well as a permanent DJ setup. It suits setups that call for USB playback, two mix channels and direct access to cue, loop and effects in one device. An independent USB DJ setup with an integrated mixer is its primary use.
