Product description Crown XLS-202 II
A passive PA system needs a power amplifier that can be operated with a suitable speaker load and takes up little space in the rack. The Crown XLS-202 II is a two-channel power amplifier with 2 × 200 watts at 4 ohms; according to the product specifications, it operates with loads of 4 to 8 ohms in stereo mode and 8 ohms in mono bridge mode.
Two electronically balanced XLR inputs are provided for connecting the signal source, one for each channel. You can adjust the input levels separately using the detented rotary controls on the front. On the output side, there are touch-protected speaker binding posts and a four-pole Speakon socket, which also supports connection to actively crossed-over speaker systems.
The power amplifier can operate in standard stereo mode or mono bridge mode; the operating mode is selected using a switch on the rear panel. Protection and diagnostic circuitry includes output current limiting, DC protection, thermal protection and a rear-panel circuit breaker. Four LED indicators show power, protection and clipping.
The 2U steel chassis is designed for a 19-inch rack. Two fans direct cooling air from front to back; the ventilation openings must be kept clear when operating the unit in a rack. The power switch and level controls are on the front, while the IEC mains connection with circuit breaker is on the rear. The specified depth of 356 mm refers to the area behind the front panel.
With its specified output, balanced XLR inputs and various speaker connections, the power amplifier is suitable for compact passive PA setups and rack-based sound reinforcement systems. The key factors when choosing are the supported speaker impedance, the preferred stereo or bridge mode, and the required power per channel.
