Product description American Audio Radius 1000
When DJing with CDs, quick access to the next track matters just as much as direct control over cue points and scratches. The American Audio Radius 1000 is a CD/MP3 player with MIDI control for DJ software and plays audio CDs, CD-Rs and MP3 CDs. Its 150 mm jogwheel with position indicator supports operation both when playing discs and when scratching digitally.
The jogwheel can be used in Normal, Scratch and Auto Cue Scratch modes. PowerTouch responds to touch, and its sensitivity is adjustable. Two modes are available for scratching and beat juggling. A red LED ring indicates the playback position on the disc, while frame-accurate searching allows more precise cue searches than navigation in one-second increments.
You can also search for tracks during playback: you can select the next track and folder without interrupting the current track. The bright display shows the title and artist from the ID tags; CDs and MP3 media are recognised quickly. Instant Start and up to 1,500 storable cue points are available for direct playback.
For transitions and adjustments during a set, the player has nine editable DSP effects: Scratch, Filter, Echo, Trans, Skid, Phase, Flanger, Pan and Bop. Time and Ratio can be adjusted, as can effect synchronisation. The digital BPM counter determines the tempo; you can use the TAP button to determine BPM manually. Tempo Lock keeps the pitch stable when adjusting the tempo.
Smart Loop creates seamless loops of four, two, three-quarter, one, half or quarter bars. Three Flash Start buttons trigger saved samples of up to five seconds each. Cue points and samples can be recalled using the Recall function. The Anti-Shock memory bridges brief shocks lasting up to ten seconds.
Via USB, the Radius 1000 sends MIDI control data and can operate up to eight MIDI channels simultaneously. This allows you to use it as a software controller; the specific control depends on the MIDI mapping in the DJ application you use. A coaxial S/PDIF output complements the audio connection. The rear stereo headphone output has its own volume control.
For operation with compatible mixers, the device supports Fader Q Start. In Flip-Flop mode, a second Radius 1000 can take over playback as soon as the track on the first player ends. An adjustable Sleep mode puts the player into standby after five to a maximum of 120 minutes; press the Play button to exit the mode.
The player is suitable for DJ setups where you want to play discs and also control software via MIDI. CD/MP3 playback, jogwheel control and MIDI cover the key ways of working; the available audio outputs and the desired software mapping are also relevant to your choice.
