Product description Alesis SR-18

For your own grooves and programmed song arrangements, the Alesis SR-18 combines a drum machine with velocity-sensitive pads and an integrated sequencer. Its 32 MB sound memory contains drum and percussion sounds as well as bass synth sounds; reverb, EQ and compressor help you adjust the sounds directly on the device.

The twelve pads play drum, percussion or bass sounds and respond to eight velocity levels. Thanks to Dynamic Articulation, suitable samples change according to how hard you play. You can also assign patterns to the pads and trigger them live in Pattern Play mode. For longer arrangements, you can combine patterns into songs; up to 100 songs can be stored.

When programming, 100 preset and 100 user patterns are available. You can edit and save user patterns; preset patterns provide ready-made rhythmic foundations. The A and B variations and their associated fills support transitions within an arrangement. The mute function lets you mute drum, percussion or bass parts; you can also mute individual pads within a bank. A drum roll function adds to the playing options.

For integration into a setup, the device has MIDI In and Out, two main outputs, an aux output and a headphone output. Via MIDI, the SR-18 can control external devices or serve as a sound module. MIDI Clock with Song Position Pointer allows synchronisation with other devices. An instrument input is provided for connecting a guitar or bass; two footswitch inputs handle Start/Stop and Count/A/B/Fill.

The SR-18 can be powered by the power supply or six AA batteries; batteries are not included. The backlit LCD, Tempo/Value dial and step editing support operation when creating and adjusting beats. With its headphone output, instrument input and MIDI connections, the drum machine is suitable both for practice and for a MIDI-based studio or live setup.
