AKG Perception 220

With loud sound sources, the level at the microphone input can quickly lead to overload. The AKG Perception 220 is a large-diaphragm condenser microphone with a cardioid polar pattern and switchable 20 dB pre-attenuation, making it suitable for high sound pressure levels too. It is designed for recording in project studios as well as for live applications.

The externally polarised 1-inch condenser transducer captures sound with a sensitivity of 18 mV/Pa. The cardioid polar pattern primarily picks up sound from the front and is suitable for close-miking individual sound sources. The frequency range extends from 20 Hz to 20 kHz.

For peak levels, 20 dB of pre-attenuation can be switched on. This increases the specified maximum SPL from 135 to 155 dB SPL at 0.5% THD. A further control activates the bass-cut filter at 12 dB/octave and 300 Hz. The pad and bass cut are switchable, allowing the microphone to be adapted to different recording situations.

The all-metal housing is robustly constructed; an elastic shock mount and an aluminium case are included. Connection is via a 3-pin XLR connector, and 48 V phantom power is required for operation. This makes the microphone suitable for studio and live setups with the corresponding XLR connection and phantom power.
