Product description AKAI Professional Controller MPC Studio

Beat programming directly via pads and knobs is at the heart of the compact USB MPC controller. The Akai MPC Studio combines the hands-on control of an MPC with the processing power of a Mac or PC system, and controls the associated MPC software. At 18.5 to 22.6 mm high, the brushed aluminium housing is suitable for mobile use.

The 16 backlit MPC pads are used to play and trigger sounds. There are also 16 Q-Link knobs for direct control of the software, four of which are touch-sensitive. The LCD displays information about the controls. For piano roll editing and editing tracks and audio files, you use the screen of the connected computer.

The MPC software accesses the computer's RAM and hard drive and provides a 128-track sequencer. The product specifications also mention a 64-track sequencer in connection with the hardware functions. Tracks can be created as an MPC Drum Program, Keygroup Program or VST plug-in. For external audio recordings, you need an audio interface connected to the computer; the MPC Studio itself does not provide this recording function.

The software package includes a sound library of over 6 GB, including the sounds of the MPC3000, as well as functions for instantly mapping and customising VST plug-ins. WAV, MP3, AIFF, REX and SND are supported. The software can run as a standalone application or as a VST, AU or RTAS plug-in, and is compatible with Mac and PC as well as, according to the product specifications, all MPC models.

With its USB connection and USB power supply, the setup remains uncluttered; the slim aluminium housing is easy to carry with a laptop. The computer-based MPC setup is suited to beatmaking and music production when you want to use pads and Q-Link knobs directly and carry out editing on your computer.
