When the camera and microphones need to be aligned together with the recording situation, an adjustable setup can help: on the Tascam DR-V1HD, the lens and stereo microphones can be rotated through 180 degrees. The compact recorder captures HD video with stereo sound and is suitable for music recordings, podcasts and video content.

For audio-only recordings, the device saves stereo WAV files at 16 or 24-bit and 44.1, 48 or 96 kHz. For video recordings, audio is also recorded as WAV; 44.1 or 48 kHz is available. The built-in condenser microphone can be supplemented with an external microphone or a line source via the stereo input. An adjustable recording level, automatic or manual level adjustment, a limiter and a switchable low-cut filter help adapt the recording to the source.

The camera records at 30 frames per second in 1280 x 720 or 640 x 480 pixels. The focus range extends from 39 cm to infinity, and the digital zoom magnifies up to four times. Two resolutions and three quality levels are available for photos; white balance and the self-timer can be adjusted. Images taken in audio mode can be linked to the audio file. An HDMI output displays videos and photos on a compatible screen.

For playback, you can choose between all files, a folder or a playlist; the VSA function changes the playback speed. The built-in mono speaker is used for monitoring, or you can use the stereo headphone/line output. You can transfer files to a computer via USB 2.0 Mini-B. Power is supplied by three AA batteries or the separately available Tascam PS-P520 power adapter; automatic power-off can be set to 3, 5, 10 or 30 minutes.

For mobile music and video documentation, the recorder combines a rotating camera unit with separate audio settings and inputs for external sources. The tripod socket and 180-degree rotation are useful when you mount the device on a tripod or record from different directions.
