Product description Shure KSE1500
Electrostatic in-ear earphones require a specially matched power supply. The Shure KSE1500 therefore combines a single electrostatic MicroDriver per ear with the matching KSA1500 DAC amplifier. The almost massless diaphragm operates across a frequency range of 10 Hz to 50 kHz; the ear tips attenuate ambient noise by up to 37 dB.
The KSA1500 accepts digital audio signals via Micro-USB-B and processes them at 16 or 24 bit and 44.1, 48, 88.2 or 96 kHz. An analogue 3.5 mm stereo line input is available for analogue sources. Use the input selector to choose which signal path is active; with analogue playback, you can also listen to the signal in bypass mode without digital processing. Two separate signal paths make the amplifier suitable for USB audio sources and devices with an analogue line output.
For sound processing, there is a four-band parametric equaliser with five presets – Flat, Low Boost, Vocal Boost, Loudness and De-Esser – as well as four adjustable user settings. A switchable input pad for the line input reduces high levels by 10 or 20 dB. Input level and volume meters help you monitor levels; the selectable RMS limiter can limit unexpected peaks.
A colour OLED display shows settings and status values. You adjust the volume using the control knob, while the Hold button locks the controls to prevent accidental changes. According to the stated figures, the integrated lithium-ion battery lasts up to 10 hours with analogue input in bypass mode or up to 7 hours with digital USB input and EQ. A full charge takes around 3 hours and 15 minutes.
The Kevlar-reinforced, mouldable cable construction helps keep the cable securely routed behind the ear; the earphones connect to the amplifier via a LEMO connector. The package includes, among other items, two 3.5 mm cables, USB cables for Lightning and OTG, a charger, an in-line volume control, adapters and storage pouches. iOS and Mac/PC devices can be connected via USB. Android requires USB Audio Class 2.0 and Micro-B OTG; not every Android device is compatible.
The KSE1500 is suited to critical listening and detail-focused monitoring if you are looking for a closed in-ear system with its own DAC amplifier and adjustable EQ. Analogue and digital playback, portable battery operation and the extensive cable and adapter accessories make it a standalone listening solution for both stationary and mobile setups.
