For a classic CD DJ setup, direct access to search, cue points and pitch is essential. The Gemini CDJ-250 is a single tabletop CD/MP3 player whose large jogwheel brings these controls together and can be used in three jog modes, depending on the task: scratch effect, cue search or pitch bend.

The drive plays audio CDs, CD-Rs and MP3 CDs. A backlit blue LCD displays track information and MP3 text; three time display modes let you keep track of either elapsed or remaining play time. The navigation dial makes it easy to select tracks quickly, and you can search within a track with frame-level accuracy. MP3 text display and time orientation help you check track details and playback position on the unit.

To match tracks, the pitch control can be set to ±4%, ±8% or ±16%. Pitch bend works via the jogwheel or separate buttons and goes up to ±16%. The player also offers instant start and a cue function with preview. Pitch control in three ranges gives you flexibility when adjusting the tempo.

For transitions and adjustments to the track currently playing, you can use a seamless loop with reloop, instant reverse and a brake effect that simulates a turntable slowing down. The anti-shock RAM memory buffers playback. In Single mode, the player stops after one track; Continue plays the following tracks. There are also programmable playlists and a repeat function. Loop, reloop and brake complement the basic playback functions.

The stereo line output connects via RCA to a line input on a mixer or amplifier; it is not designed for a phono input. This compact standalone unit is therefore suited to DJ setups with a separate mixer and CD playback. The RCA line output allows connection to typical mixer and amplifier inputs.
