Faderfox Micromodul DS3

When samples, hotcues and deck parameters need to be directly accessible while mixing, the Faderfox Micromodul DS3 adds a compact MIDI control surface to an existing DJ setup. It is designed for Traktor Pro 2 and is suitable as an addition to a conventional mix controller or external mixer. Its focus is on sample decks, eight hotcues, transport functions and access to all four decks.

The 12 large buttons are used to trigger samples and control hotcues and transport functions. Four deck select buttons switch between decks A to D; track and sample deck modes are supported. Four multifunction encoders are provided for seek, pitch, key and grid, as well as other deck parameters. Six group buttons access different parameter sections, and the Shift button gives each control a second function.

For effects control, you can assign decks to the four FX slots using the four FX assign buttons. The encoders also access loop and sample parameters: sample slots can be edited individually or together. A dedicated loop recorder section with an encoder and two buttons also includes a copy function for transferring content to sample slots.

The separate browser section combines an encoder and buttons for view, favourites and navigation through the folder structure. A two-digit display and 31 LEDs with computer feedback show values and status information on the unit. This can reduce the need to look at the computer screen during selected operations. More than 750 freely assignable commands are available in total.

The DS3 connects via USB and is powered through the same connection; as a class-compliant device, it requires no additional driver. The included Traktor mapping makes setup easier and contains over 1200 assignments. Traktor Pro/Duo 2 is supported from version 2.1.1 onwards. Alternatively, you can use the controller with software that supports freely assignable CC and Note commands. A computer with a free USB port or a USB hub is required.

The compact desktop housing is made of black plastic and has a silver, anodised aluminium front panel. USB operation without a separate power supply and the Traktor mapping make the unit a useful addition to setups that need extra controls for sample triggering, hotcues and effect access.
