When desk space is limited, your monitoring still needs to provide a precise assessment of the mix and sound. The EVE Audio SC204 is an active 2-way nearfield monitor for small studios, post-production and desktop applications. Its compact enclosure combines a 4-inch SilverCone woofer-midrange driver with an AMT tweeter and two separate amplifiers.

The woofer-midrange driver has a honeycomb, glass-fibre-reinforced diaphragm and a 1-inch voice coil. Together with its design for large linear excursion, the driver supports dynamic reproduction in the low and mid frequencies. For the high frequencies, the monitor uses the AMT RS1; the crossover frequency between the drivers is 3,000 Hz. 4-inch SilverCone and AMT RS1 form the acoustic heart of the 2-way system.

For connecting an audio interface or another line source, the rear panel provides one balanced XLR input and one unbalanced RCA input. Both inputs can be used simultaneously, in which case their signals are summed. The maximum input level is 8 dBu. A flashing LED ring indicates clipping – in this case, you should reduce the output level of the source. XLR and RCA inputs allow you to connect different analogue signal sources.

Use the front-panel rotary control to adjust the volume; press it to open the menu for the sound filters and LED display. The Low, High and Desk filters can be adjusted in 0.5 dB steps and can help you adapt the monitor to the room acoustics and placement. The SC204's Desk filter operates at 200 Hz. The filters range from a maximum boost of +3 dB to a cut of −5 dB. Three adjustable filters provide targeted corrections for bass, treble and the effect of a desktop surface.

The LED ring displays the set level in four different modes. You can also use the control to mute the monitor or put it into standby mode, where power consumption drops to 1 W. Rear-panel DIP switches can be used to lock the volume and filter settings against accidental changes. Settings are saved. Front-panel control keeps the volume, filters and display directly accessible on the monitor.

You can position the SC204 vertically on a flat surface using the included rubber feet, or mount it on a microphone stand. For this, the underside has a 3/8-inch thread; two rear mounting points are designed for M6 screws for wall mounting. The screws used for the mounting points must not extend more than 10 mm, and screws in the stand thread must not extend more than 16 mm. Stand and wall mounting give you additional options when space is limited or placement conditions are unusual.

At 145 mm wide, this compact monitor is suitable for desktop monitoring, small home studios and mobile workstations where a larger speaker would be difficult to accommodate. It is particularly well suited to setups with an analogue XLR or RCA output and offers filters for adapting it to its placement.
