Electro Voice Dynamic Microphone PL80c

On loud stages, a tight directional pickup pattern helps separate vocals from other stage sound. The dynamic Electro Voice PL80c is designed for live vocals and speech, combining a supercardioid polar pattern with low-feedback pickup. It is also suitable for instruments or amplifiers when a dynamic microphone is required.

The polar pattern picks up sound mainly from the direction of the microphone and rejects signals arriving from the sides more strongly. This improves separation between nearby sound sources and can reduce spill and feedback on stage. The shock-mounted capsule also reduces handling and contact noise.

The detailed frequency response and vocal-focused sound profile support clear reproduction without making voices sound unnecessarily harsh. When positioned close to the sound source, the bass increases due to the proximity effect; this can be useful for voices that sound thin. At distances of around 15 cm or more, this change is minor according to the technical usage notes.

For connection to a mixing desk or microphone preamp, the wired model has a balanced, three-pin XLR output. It operates passively and requires no power supply. The impedance is 600 ohms; sensitivity is 2.2 mV/Pa or −53 dBV.

The PL80c is suited to live setups for vocals and presenting, and can also be used for dynamic miking of instruments or amplifiers when needed. It is an especially suitable choice when directional pickup, low handling noise and a wired XLR connection match your stage or sound reinforcement setup. A stand adapter and a zip pouch are included.
