In a dense stage mix, a voice should be easy to place clearly without the microphone picking up excessive background noise. The Electro-Voice PL44 dynamic supercardioid vocal microphone boosts the upper midrange and focuses its pickup tightly on the sound source. It is also suitable for speech, instruments and amplifiers where a dynamic transducer is required.

The supercardioid pattern picks up sound primarily from the front and improves separation from nearby sound sources. This can reduce feedback and spill on stage. A shock-mounted capsule reduces handling and structure-borne noise; the fine Memraflex grille protects the microphone capsule.

The frequency response is designed to reproduce voices clearly, with a boost in the upper midrange. At a short speaking distance, the proximity effect becomes more pronounced and boosts the bass. At distances of around 15 cm or more, this tonal coloration is minor; close-miking can also increase the output level, allowing you to reduce the mixer gain accordingly.

The three-pin XLR connection integrates the microphone into standard stage and audio setups. A stand adapter and a zippered pouch are included. This makes the handheld microphone for vocals and speech suitable for live setups, rehearsal rooms and applications where instruments or amplifiers are also miked with a dynamic microphone.
