DJ-Tech USB-Controller I-Mix MK II

For computer-based DJ use, the DJ-Tech I-Mix MK II combines MIDI control and a USB audio interface in one device. The two jog wheels support pitch bending, scratching and track searching; an adjustable crossfader curve can be set for quick cuts or longer transitions. DJ software on a computer is required for operation: the controller does not work as a standalone audio mixer.

The integrated 2-in/2-out USB audio interface routes audio signals between the computer and connected devices. On the rear are two phono/line inputs with level selector switches for each, two line outputs and ground terminals for turntables. Both outputs carry the same mixed signal; the microphone signal is also included. The headphone socket on the front is for monitoring the cue signal.

You connect a microphone via the 6.3 mm jack socket. Volume and tone can be adjusted separately; the master and headphone levels also have their own controls. The faders and buttons control software via MIDI, while audio output runs through the interface. No DJ software means no mixing – the hardware does not mix audio signals independently.

The Deckadance LE layout includes, among other things, a 3-band EQ, EQ kill, FX selection and activation, Sync, Keylock, Reloop, sample and cue buttons, as well as channel and crossfaders. Use the Song Select encoders to choose tracks and load them onto Deck A or B; the jog wheels also handle search functions. Other DJ software can be controlled via MIDI Learn, provided it supports this function and is configured accordingly.

The package includes Deckadance LE for Mac and PC, as well as a USB cable. An ASIO driver is provided for Windows XP and Vista. The controller can be powered via USB; if the USB port does not supply enough power, an external 6 V power supply is provided for, although it is not listed as included. The lightweight ABS construction and robust controls, faders and buttons suit mobile computer-based DJ setups, where the connections and software required must match your own setup.
