Denon DN-X600

When analogue playback sources and DJ software are used in the same setup, an integrated audio interface saves you the need for additional hardware. The Denon DN-X600 is a two-channel DJ mixer with USB audio, DVS mode and a freely assignable input source for its channels.

USB provides four stereo inputs and four stereo outputs at 24-bit resolution and up to 96 kHz. This allows audio signals to be transferred between the mixer and computer; DVS mode integrates timecode-based software without a separate interface. A USB/MIDI interface also transmits MIDI commands from most of the controls. The mixer detects the computer’s MIDI clock to determine BPM and can pass MIDI commands on to connected video equipment via the THRU function.

The input source matrix assigns six sources to the two channels; each channel can be switched between LINE, USB audio and DVS. Phono inputs with FET preamps are provided for playing records. The 3-band isolator with Full-Kill can completely cut the highs, mids and lows. The microphone input with a two-band EQ can alternatively be used as an AUX1 input; a ducking function reduces the background music when using the microphone.

Eight digital effects are available for sound processing: Delay, Echo, Flanger, Filter, Reverb, Loop, Beat Scratch and BeatBreaker. They can be quickly accessed and assigned to a channel, microphone or master. BPM and beat parameters support rhythmic control. Effect software such as TRAKTOR PRO can also be integrated into the signal path via USB send/return; the effect return can be switched and adjusted.

The booth output has separate level control and can alternatively serve as an effect send. For monitoring, there is a Split Cue function with a CUE/MASTER pan control and precise PFL level meters. The large BPM display shows beat and time parameters as well as tempo. Fader start for the channel and crossfaders can be enabled; the crossfader curve is continuously adjustable in 32 steps.

The 45 mm FlexFader can be mechanically adjusted and is compatible with the InnoFader Pro. Its start position is 0–2 mm from the edge. The 45 mm ALPS channel faders also feature a continuously adjustable fader curve. The steel sheet metal housing contains 32-bit digital signal processing; the master DAC is also 32-bit.

With USB audio, DVS switching, MIDI control and readily accessible effect and fader functions, the DN-X600 is suited to computer-based DJ sets as well as setups with turntables and line-level sources. A USB 2.0 connection is provided for connecting to a computer; the specified operating systems are Mac OS X 10.6.4 and Windows XP, Vista and 7 in 32- or 64-bit versions. An ASIO driver for Windows is included.
