Denon AXIS 12

In a coaxial active speaker, the high- and low-frequency drivers are positioned on a shared axis and emit sound from almost the same point. The Denon AXIS 12 uses this principle in a 12-inch two-way speaker for mobile music playback and live applications. This design supports time- and phase-aligned reproduction and makes the enclosure around 30% shorter than comparable speakers without a coaxial configuration.

Low frequencies are handled by a 12-inch long-excursion woofer, with a coaxially mounted compression driver above it. The consistent 90° horizontal and vertical dispersion supports even sound distribution throughout the room. The integrated Class-D amplifier delivers 2,000 W peak power or 1,000 W continuous power; a DSP controls the separate amplifier sections for the low and high frequencies.

A built-in 5-band parametric EQ is available for sound adjustment. You can also choose between the Flat and Boost digital EQ presets. Protection against overheating and overload, as well as a limiter and compressor, support operation at high levels.

Two inputs accommodate different signal sources: Input 1 is an XLR/6.35 mm jack combo socket with a Line/Mic switch. Input 2 accepts a signal via another XLR/jack combo socket or a stereo pair of RCA connectors. An XLR Thru output routes the signal to additional equipment.

The trapezoidal enclosure combines a plywood construction with ABS components at the top and bottom, a black finish and a metal grille. A 35 mm speaker stand socket and a carrying handle make setup and transport easier. The speaker is powered from the mains via an IEC connection.

With its microphone and line inputs, DSP sound adjustment and speaker stand socket, the AXIS 12 is suited to mobile setups for DJs, musicians and events. The coaxial design is particularly relevant when you want to take a more compact enclosure height and even dispersion into account.
