For passive nearfield monitoring, you need a separate power amplifier, but you can choose the amplification to suit your studio setup. The Behringer Truth B2031P is a two-way reference monitor with 150 watts power handling and 4-ohm impedance. It is supplied as a selected stereo pair and reproduces frequencies from 55 Hz to 21 kHz.

The 8.75-inch woofer with a polypropylene cone and die-cast aluminium chassis handles the bass range. The high frequencies are handled by a ferrofluid-cooled 25 mm dome tweeter. A phase-optimised, low-distortion crossover with a crossover frequency of 2 kHz splits the signal between the two drivers, supporting neutral reproduction and precise stereo imaging.

Waveguide technology controls sound dispersion and widens the area in which you perceive a balanced stereo image. The magnetically shielded, low-vibration MDF cabinet allows placement near screens. The B2031P is designed for nearfield use; connection and operation are via a power amplifier and speaker cables connected to the rear binding posts.

For the stereo pair, the user manual recommends a power amplifier rated at 2 × 300 watts into 4 ohms. When selecting one, make sure the impedance is suitable and do not exceed the monitors’ power handling. With its binding posts, 4-ohm design and passive construction, the selected pair is suited to a studio with a separate power amplifier, for nearfield monitoring and mixing, for example.
