If kick drum and bass are to remain physically present even in larger rooms, the PA needs its own low-frequency foundation. The Behringer Eurolive Professional B1800X PRO is a passive 18-inch subwoofer for PA systems; its long-excursion driver covers the range from 40 to 300 Hz. You need an external power amplifier to operate it.

Use the switch on the rear to choose between passive and bi-amping operation. In passive mode, the internal crossover limits the subwoofer range; the high-pass output can supply a top speaker with the filtered signal. In bi-amping mode, the subwoofer signal is fed separately via an external crossover and its own amplifier channel. You may only switch operating modes when no active signal is present.

Two Speakon-compatible speaker connectors serve as input and output. In bi-amping mode, the subwoofer signal is carried on contacts 2+/2−; contacts 1+/1− carry the signal through. In passive mode, the full-range signal is carried on 1+/1−, while the output carries the high-pass signal. This allows you to integrate the subwoofer into a passive or separately driven system to suit the chosen wiring.

A metal pole socket accommodates standard speaker poles for a top speaker. Recessed handles make transport easier, while the steel grille protects the driver at the front. With a weight of 35 kg and its 18-inch driver, this model is designed for PA setups that call for a passive subwoofer with a switchable crossover, Speakon-compatible connectors and powerful low-frequency reproduction.
