American Audio VX-1000

With a PA power amplifier, the operating mode, speaker load and connection method need to suit your setup. The American Audio VX-1000 is a two-channel amplifier for DJs, bands and smaller installations. Stereo, parallel and bridge modes let you choose whether to use two separate channels, a parallel signal or bridged mono operation.

The LCD displays the temperature, operating status and protection mode; you can access the settings via the menu. The clip limiter and protection shutdown help ensure safe operation: the amplifier monitors temperature, short circuits, DC voltage, overload and clipping, among other things. If it overheats, the CPS system automatically shuts down the amplifier; soft start and power-on delay are also provided.

For signal processing, a 100 Hz filter and a selectable low cut at 30 or 50 Hz are available. Dynamic Sound Circuitry is designed to improve dynamic range and sound. The two-stage fan control adjusts the cooling to the operating conditions.

On the input side, the connections include XLR connectors in male and female versions; speaker outputs are provided by Speakon sockets and binding posts. The combination of XLR and Speakon makes it easier to integrate the amplifier into standard PA cabling. The amplifier uses Class AB circuitry and has a 3 mm-thick steel chassis with rear mounting brackets for rack installation.

The power ratings vary depending on impedance and operating mode: in stereo mode, the ratings are 2 × 350 W at 8 ohms, 2 × 550 W at 4 ohms and 2 × 600 W at 2 ohms. In bridge mode, 1,100 W at 8 ohms or 1,200 W at 4 ohms is available. You should take the appropriate speaker impedance into account when planning your setup, so that the operating mode and connected load are compatible.

With its selectable operating modes, integrated filters and the connections listed above, the VX-1000 is suitable for DJ and band setups, as well as smaller PA installations. The rack-mountable steel chassis is designed for use in a rack or on stage.
