Ecler Warm2 in review

After 13 years out of the business, the beloved Spanish manufacturer, Ecler is back in the game with their brand new rotary mixer, the WARM2. Having a more niche market, Ecler was always renowned for their pure sound quality and simplistic design, and it was always used more in home environments rather than clubs.

The WARM2 is currently the only DJ Mixer manufactured by Ecler, and after playing with it, we definitely think that it is a promising product that commits to the signature warm sound of Ecler mixers (as the name also suggests).

As todays rotary mixers are mostly mimicking the feel of old school rotary mixers, it just feels natural to expect a solid metallic construction, which is exactly what we get from the WARM2. We also get some nice wooden side panels, which is kind of industry standard for this genre, but if you feel like trading off the vintage looks for some space in your booth, you can remove these, so you get an extra 2 centimeters.

From a quality/feel point of view, the plastic knobs of the EQs do not really match the sturdy metallic construction, but being an analogue mixer, from an engineering point of view this can become more understandable, as the plastic knobs interfere less with the mixers sound. The feel is very similar to the Ecler Nuo and we can confirm that the knobs on the Nuo have stood the test of time even under heavy use, so we are not worried about this aspect of the WARM2.

The Huge volume knobs have a wonderful smooth linear curve, exactly how we prefer on rotary mixers. The positioning of the Master and Cue VU METER between the volume knobs is a bit tricky, as we would expect this usually on the top of the mixer, but considering the space limitations, it was an obvious choice.

ecler warm2 isolators

Just above the volume knobs we find the ISOLATOR knobs, which is an indispensable element of rotary mixers. If you are a rotary mixer rookie, you may legitimately ask why is an isolator needed if you have EQ-s, but the crossovers of the isolator are different from the EQ crossovers. This way, they are mainly used for sound coloring rather than mixing. The crossover frequencies for the WARM2 are at 300 Hz (Low-Mid) and 4000 Hz (Mid-High).

The WARM2 also comes with an additional third channel, which can be used as a MIC channel, or via LINE input. It comes with a 2 band EQ and TRIM function and its volume knob is placed just below the EQ. Speaking of the MIC channel, the WARM2 comes with a very rare feature on DJ mixers: it can provide 48V Phantom Power for condenser microphones

The WARM2 allows us to use some of our favourite FX units to be hooked up via the SEND/RETURN channel, both main channels have SEND knobs.

The I/O section is on point for such a small unit, we have 1 x Master XLR output, 1x RCA BOOTH output, RECORD output (labelled as: HOUSE); 2 headphone outputs (3.5 and 6.3 mm jack). Vinyl DJs will not be disappointed with the phono preamps, they have a very balanced sound, and provide a decent signal.

All in all the WARM2 is nothing else but a premium 2 channel rotary mixer, with astonishing sound quality, just as warm and bright as the place where it is manufactured: Barcelona. It is a mixer that respects the legacy of Ecler mixers and we really hope to see a WARM4 with 4 channels soon.
