For DJ sets and live recordings, it is useful to read levels directly on the interface and adjust the output sound without additional software. The Vestax VAI-80 Tank is a 4-channel USB sound card with 2In/2Out, whose distinctive casing is reminiscent of a tank. It combines adjustable inputs and outputs with XLR and RCA connections.

The volume LEDs per channel can display either input or output level. This lets you keep an eye on the levels while operating the device. The microphone input and headphone output each have their own volume control; both use jack connections.

An analogue 2-band EQ is available for quick sound adjustments at the output. It controls the treble and bass and is suitable for broad corrections during live performances. The interface is designed for DJ and DAW software; an ASIO driver is included on the supplied CD.

It connects to the computer via USB 1.0 or 1.1. For Windows, Vestax specifies XP or Vista, an Intel Pentium 3 running at a minimum of 450 MHz and 512 MB RAM. A G4 processor, OS X 10.4 or higher and 512 MB RAM are also required for Mac.

With its adjustable levels, switchable LED displays, balanced XLR outputs and unbalanced RCA outputs, the VAI-80 is suited to DJ and live setups connected to a computer. Its 16-bit resolution at 44.1 kHz and compact dimensions help you assess whether it will fit your existing system and available space.
