Really difficult to rate. You have to make a distinction, so on the one hand compare with earlier Technics players and on the other hand with current players from other manufacturers. I still have a 1210M5G (am the original owner). Compared to this, the GR can't quite match it in terms of material and build quality, not even close. This is immediately noticeable in all sorts of places. For this 2, at most 3 stars. In terms of sound, both don't give each other anything in the end. Got two pretty decent systems, so listen to music with the players at home. I use a Concorde Century on the turntables, a Vinylmaster Red and the Inakustik NF-803 Phono on the GR. So I have good opportunities for comparison and can ultimately say that even with a really good, clean hi-fi system, not one Technics player plays finer or better or nicer than the other, regardless of the pickup. For this 5 stars. I don't know whether the clear differences in the manufacturing quality also apply to the built-in technology or electronics. Time will tell whether the new Technics are as durable as the old ones. But: If you have the choice between an M5G in new condition and a GR, then the M5G is probably the safer bet. What is certain is that if I were a DJ, I would definitely prefer to work with an old Technics, for example a "simple" MKII, because the new ones will hardly keep up with that in the long run. In comparison to players from other manufacturers, however, things look completely different. In this price range and easily in the next two as well, there is hardly a similarly solid, confidence-inspiring player. You almost have to smile a little without wanting to be arrogant. More is nothing more to say. For this 5 stars. All in all, as the GR stands here - and assuming that it will live a long time - I am very, very satisfied. And: 5 stars for Recordcase!

Overpriced digitally controlled player!

The Technics GR may be outstanding. But for the price, I would rather rely on old devices like the Mk2 or Mk5. The mods can be quickly realized with the old models and even cheaper than if you get two from the GR. The old one is easy to maintain, which becomes more problematic with the new one. Therefore: Better to take the Mk2, MK5 and M5G!

Very well done

After several days and XX hours of listening, I can definitely recommend this device, but you shouldn't expect a G / GAE in GR, which is often confused. Sound-technically top-on a similar high level as the old MK5 or MK6. I would even say the old M5G & MK4 models are extremely thin compared to the GR, but that's my subjective opinion. Enormous age, like the old Technics models, the beauty will probably not reach, but there is too much electronics on board for it. Well preserved, unbreakable old Technics 1210/00 models are very rare and very expensive, so I make a clear purchase recommendation for the new GR ,

Proud price, but perfect, robust quality as before with improved components everywhere. Tonearm, motor. Everything runs like the old 1210 has never run. Save yourself the money for the mods and get the new one straight away.

Simply the best record player ever

The new Technics record player is actually even better than the MK2 or MK5. At first I wasn't sure if I wanted to spend that much, but the difference to a Pioneer or Reloop DJ turntable is huge. I sold my old Technics SL-1210 MK2 well on Ebay and didn't even have to put as much on the new flagship. Great, great, great .... *** +++ *** +++ ***
