Technics SL-1200/1210 MK7 - The New DJ Turntable Reference is Coming Our Way

Nine years ago, production was halted, and three years ago - also as a result of a Facebook petition in which around 27,000 supporters participated - the classic Technics SL-1200 and SL-1210 continued their long-standing history.

First produced in the depths of the 70s, this equally robust and practical turntable has evolved over decades into an indestructible workhorse and has remained so to this day.

Approximately 3.5 million customersworldwide purchased the device, which is primarily distinguished by its high drive torque, easy operation, and excellent durability.

The first reissue was introduced in 2016, but price-wise, the wheat was separated from the chaff.

3,500 euros - the more affluent among the HiFi connoisseurs accepted it and indulged in this luxury, while the average mortals and DJs among the vinyl fans turned to alternatives or stuck with their old devices. But something about it is about to change, noticeably. The magic formula is Technics SL-1210MK7, and behind it lies the current reissue of the beloved classic.

Familiar Design - New Motor

The iconic design finds its new manifestation here; visually, compared to its predecessor, the almost historical original, almost nothing has changed. The only detail that stands out is the color scheme: while the buttons of the SL-1210MK2 were still silver, the MK7 is now entirely deep black.

Specifically for the MK7, a new direct drive motor has been developed, which operates with an iron core stator thus eliminating the cause of the previously complained about so-called cogging.

Smooth rotation and powerful drive torque ensure authentic sound quality. Furthermore, the composite construction of the turntable, consisting of a combination of vibration-damping rubber and aluminum die-casting, ensures authentic, interference-free sound.

Damping feet made of a spring-rubber construction ensure a firm stance and good interference immunity.
Also new is the operation mode of the pitch adjustment range, which now can be adjusted continuously between ±8 percent and ±16 percent, making the speed adjustment even more precise and ensuring optimal leveling between two decks.

By simultaneously pressing the start/stop button, the record also runs backward, while the telescopic needle illumination is equipped with a new mechanism and a durable white LED. The price remains the final all-decisive question.

In Germany, the SL-1210MK7 is expected to be available for around 1,000 euros or slightly less. Recordcase says: Welcome back!
