Product description Tascam DR-60D MK2
For DSLR recordings, the camera and audio need to remain controllable separately without making operation on set unnecessarily complicated. The Tascam DR-60D MK2 is a four-track Linear PCM recorder designed to be mounted beneath a DSLR camera. Its four recording tracks with mixing function allow several microphone or line signals to be recorded separately and mixed down to a stereo signal when required.
Two XLR/TRS combo sockets with Tascam HDDA microphone preamps accept microphone or line signals; phantom power can be switched to 24 or 48 volts for condenser microphones. An additional stereo mini-jack input supports small microphones with switchable plug-in power and signals of up to +10 dBV. The levels of channels 1, 2 and 3–4 can be adjusted separately. HI+PLUS provides up to 64 dB of input gain to increase the gain of the XLR/TRS microphone inputs.
For safety recordings, the recorder can create a second file simultaneously at a lower recording level. The pre-recording buffer captures up to two seconds before you press the record button. Auto-recording starts or stops at an adjustable signal level; alternatively, you can delay the start. A switchable low-cut filter reduces low-frequency noise at 40, 80 or 120 Hz. MS decoding processes Mid-Side microphone signals directly during recording or playback.
You can monitor the camera's audio signal on the recorder via CAMERA IN. CAMERA OUT sends the mixed audio back to the camera as a reference signal; LOW and HIGH output levels are available for the connection. A switchable slate tone makes it easier to synchronise picture and sound later. The headphone and line outputs have separate level controls. The ¼-inch threaded mount on the underside is for tripod mounting, while the camera mount on top allows you to attach the DSLR.
Practical functions are also available for playback and file management: you can set markers, split files and start a new file during a recording, either manually or when a specific file size is reached. File names can be generated from the date or a specified character string. Jump-Back replays the last few seconds of a file; the last playback position is retained when the recorder is switched off. Playback EQ and level alignment adjust playback, while runtime compensation offsets delays caused by different microphone distances. The backlit 128 × 64-pixel display clearly shows the settings; a key lock prevents accidental operation.
The recorder stores files on SD and SDHC cards and can be connected to a computer via USB 2.0. It is powered by four AA batteries, USB bus power or, optionally, the PS-P515U AC adapter or BP-6AA battery pack. When an external power supply is connected, the unit can automatically switch to its internal batteries. The model is particularly suitable for DSLR setups with several separate audio sources when you want to bring recording, camera reference and monitoring together in one compact device.
