Product description Tascam DR-100MK2

For mobile stereo recording, depending on the situation, you need either your own microphone setup or quick access to built-in microphones. The Tascam DR-100MKII combines both in a recorder with four built-in microphones and a robust metal casing. It records to SD and SDHC cards and is suitable for music, speech, conferences and location recording.

For the built-in microphones, you can choose between two directional capsules for stereo music recording and two omnidirectional capsules for recordings such as conferences. Two locking XLR inputs with switchable 48-volt phantom power accommodate external microphones. A level-adjustable stereo line input with a mini-jack socket and an S/PDIF digital input via the supplied adapter cable complement the inputs. Three input sensitivities can be selected using a slide switch; you set the recording level using linked hardware controls.

Recording starts manually, via the supplied remote control or optional footswitch, or automatically as soon as the input signal exceeds a set threshold. Pre-recording saves up to two seconds before you press the button. Delayed recording always starts 0.3 seconds after you press the record button and helps prevent the sound of the button press from being captured. Pre-recording and delayed recording are alternative functions and cannot be used at the same time.

For level control, there is switchable automatic level control and a limiter. A switchable low-cut filter operates at 40, 80 or 120 Hz. During a recording, you can start a new audio file manually or based on file size. Other editing functions include overdubbing, adding markers and splitting WAV files. Direct file functions such as splitting and renaming make it easier to work with recordings on the device.

Playback options include loop playback, selecting a folder or playlist, and a variable speed range from −50 % to +16 %. With the VSA function enabled, you can change the tempo without affecting the pitch. You can monitor playback via the level-adjustable headphone output, the separate stereo line output or the built-in, switchable speaker. A ¼-inch tripod thread on the underside allows you to mount the recorder on a table stand or microphone stand; you can transfer files to a computer via USB 2.0. Changing the tempo while keeping the pitch constant is particularly useful when listening back to specific sections.

The recorder can be powered by the BP-L2 lithium-ion battery, two AA batteries, the optional BP-6AA battery pack or the optional PS-P520 power supply. The battery and AA batteries serve as separate power sources; during a recording, you can change the batteries if the second power source takes over. Two separate power sources support longer sessions without interrupting recording. This model is suited to mobile stereo recording where built-in microphones, external XLR microphones and a compact device that can be mounted on a stand are required.
