Stanton SCS-1d

A large, motorised platter makes all the difference when you want to control digital tracks using familiar turntable movements. The Stanton SCS-1d is a deck controller with a 10-inch motorised platter and control vinyl for DJ software. It sends and receives control data, but does not output an audio signal itself.

Depending on the operating mode, you can use the platter for scratching, browsing through a track or as an assignable parameter control. Its torque is adjustable, allowing you to tailor its response. Deck selection also lets one unit control several virtual decks; when you switch decks, the controller adapts to the selected software deck.

The 100 mm motorised pitch fader can synchronise its position with the software, moving along, for example, when using Auto-Sync or switching virtual decks. The pitch reset and range buttons let you adapt the control to the functions supported by the application. The four velocity-sensitive pads can be assigned to cue points or loops, for example.

Four endless encoders with LED rings are available for additional software parameters. Their functions are determined by their respective assignments; four LCD strips can display the corresponding labels and status information. Illuminated controls make it easier to find your way around. Transport, search and scan buttons, along with assignable controls, complete the control surface.

The computer connects via FireWire 400. Two FireWire ports allow compatible SCS.1 series devices to be daisy-chained. To use the controller, you need a computer, a DJ application and the DaRouter software with a suitable configuration. The device driver is also required on Windows; DaRouter is required on Mac. Available functions depend on the application and the selected preset.

As the SCS-1d does not produce sound itself or provide audio outputs, you need a separate audio interface or mixer for the audio signal path. It can be combined with the Stanton SCS.1m or a conventional DJ mixer; it can also be integrated into a DVS setup. This makes the unit suitable for computer-based setups in which you want to use a motorised platter, direct software control and a modular deck system.
