A crisp kick, an open hi-hat and a few shifted steps can set an entire track in motion. The Roland TR-1000 bundles this direct approach to rhythm into a drum machine that combines analog circuitry, digital sound generation and sampling in one instrument.
In the analog domain, the Rhythm Creator works with 16 recreated circuits from the TR-808 and TR-909. They provide the familiar foundation for kick, snare, hi-hat and other classic drum sounds, but can be further shaped using extended parameters and a wide dynamic range.
In addition, ACB models, FM, virtual analog and PCM sound generation are available. The 75 ACB-Tones also include circuit-bent 8X/9X models. This allows you to combine classic drum characters with synthetic percussion sounds, basslines and digital textures within a single kit.
Your own recordings, imported samples and the included library are at the heart of the sound structure. The sampler operates at 48 kHz and 16-bit, supports WAV, AIFF and MP3 and can record individual samples up to 16 minutes in length. The TR-1000 has 64 GB of internal memory, 46 GB of which are reserved for your own data.
Stereo sampling, resampling, BPM sync, time-stretching and non-destructive slice editing keep your material flexible. This is practical when you want to continue working on a field recording, a vocal phrase or a short drum break as part of a pattern without committing to the original file.
Four layer tracks can either combine two sound generators or process them separately. They are complemented by six single tracks and a dedicated part for trigger-out. Each track features a compressor, multimode filter or four-band EQ, as well as amp and envelope control.
For further processing, an analog state-variable filter and analog drive are available alongside digital instrument effects, reverb, delay and master effects. In the four layer tracks, you can also set up effects, internal sidechaining, LFO destinations and output paths per track.
The TR-REC sequencer remains the fast entry point for step patterns, but it is augmented by real-time recording and off-grid input for shifted timing. Motion recording captures parameter movements, while probability, cycle conditions and various playback directions can change repetitions within a pattern.
Swing per track and shift functions help to shift the groove precisely. In Song mode, patterns and variations can be chained and repeated in your own sequence. This allows the machine to play back even longer arrangements while both your hands are occupied with other instruments or the mixing console.
The rear panel offers mix outputs, a separate analog FX output and multiple individual/trigger outputs. External stereo sources can be integrated via the External In jacks. Trigger, CV, Filter CV and clock connections connect the drum machine to compatible modular and hardware equipment.
MIDI is available via inputs and outputs with DIN sync. Via USB-C, the TR-1000 works as an audio/MIDI device on your computer, while the USB-A port accepts external devices. A pedal jack and a headphone output complete the connections for performance and production.
The Roland TR-1000 suits producers and live acts who want to use classic TR sounds as a starting point and develop them further with sampling, layering and deep sequencing. TR and CR sounds, FM drums and custom samples Each kit features ACB emulations of classic Roland drum machines, FM sounds and preset samples. These include sounds from the TR-808, TR-909, TR-606, TR-707, TR-727 and CR-78. This allows you to build a pattern with well-known drum characters and then expand it with targeted, different sound colours. You can import your own WAV and AIFF files via SD card and assign them to the instrument parts.
