Product description Roland Aira VT-4
A voice can carry a song, define a moderation, or become an instrument in its own right during a live set. The Roland Aira VT-4 is designed for exactly this: the compact Voice Transformer processes vocals directly on the device and can be played using faders, buttons, and knobs while you speak or sing.
Shape vocal sounds directly
Pitch and Formant have their own dedicated faders. Use them to change the pitch and sound character of the voice independently, for example for subtle thickening, more distinct characters, or electronic vocal lines. Operation remains visible on the surface, without the need to navigate through menus.
The range of effects includes Robot, Megaphone, Vocoder, Harmony, and Reverb, each with four variations. Auto Pitch, Delay, and Reverb complement the sound processing. Multiple effects can be combined simultaneously, allowing you to pair a vocoder with chorus or echo, for instance, and create a custom sound for a song or program segment.
Eight scenes for recurring setups
You can save your own settings in eight scene memories. This is practical if a set requires different voices, harmonies, or character effects that you want to recall quickly. When switching between saved scenes, the controls remain immediately focused on live performance.
The central Auto-Pitch knob determines the intensity of the pitch processing. Together with the buttons for the effect variations, this creates a workflow where you perform sound changes with your hands. The VT-4 also works without a computer, making it a great fit between a microphone, mixer, and PA, or in a compact production setup.
MIDI control for harmonies and vocoder
Use MIDI IN to connect a MIDI keyboard. Played notes control Auto Pitch, Harmony, and Vocoder in real time; chords can thereby dictate the voice leading of the harmonies. This facilitates tonal vocoder pads as well as multi-part backing vocals that match a played chord progression.
For microphones, a balanced combo input for XLR or 6.3 mm TRS is available on the back. It provides +48 V phantom power if needed. Additionally, there is a microphone input on the front in stereo mini-jack format with plug-in power, two 6.3 mm line outputs, a headphone output, and USB Type B for audio and bus power.
USB audio and mobile operation
Via USB, the Voice Transformer can be integrated into a computer setup, for instance for recording, podcasting, or live streaming. The 24-bit signal processing and AD/DA conversion support sampling frequencies of 44.1, 48, 96, and 192 kHz. The right line output functions as a bypass output, so that an unprocessed signal can be output separately.
Alternatively, four AA batteries or AA Ni-MH rechargeable batteries power the unit. Without phantom power, the battery life is approximately six hours with alkaline batteries or seven hours with Ni-MH batteries. The handy chassis measures 174 x 133 x 58 mm, allowing it to be placed on a keyboard or next to a small mixer.
Is the Roland Aira VT-4 suitable for your vocal performance?
The Roland Aira VT-4 is suitable for singers, electronic live acts, DJs, and producers who want to use their voice as an active part of their performance. It also offers direct access to characterful vocal effects for podcasts, streams, or creative voice recordings. If you play harmonies or vocoder parts via a MIDI keyboard, MIDI control expands the range of applications with precise tonal control.

Great for live messing around
Really like the VT-4 for live use. Small footprint, easy controls, and it feels made for performance instead of endless setup. Pitch and formant stuff is fun, and the vocoder side can sound cool with the right setup. Not every sound is gold right away, so you gotta dial it in a bit. Still, solid unit.
Top Gerne wieder
