Load music directly from smartphones or tablets into a DJ system without copying it to a USB stick first: the pearl-white Pioneer XDJ-AERO-W combines Wi-Fi playback with two integrated decks and a mixer. The device can provide its own Wi-Fi network, allowing you to connect mobile devices even when no network is available. Up to four devices can be connected at the same time.

Over Wi-Fi, the controller plays MP3 and AAC files from smartphones, tablets and computers. Alternatively, you can use USB storage or connect a computer via USB. You can switch between wireless playback and USB inputs directly on the device. Use rekordbox to manage tracks and playlists; compatible smartphones and tablets can also remotely control the XDJ-AERO-W. Firmware version 3.00 and rekordbox version 1.2.0 or later are required to control effects and other functions via the app.

The device can also be used without mobile playback devices: as a standalone 2-channel mixer, it accepts two phono/line sources and a microphone. Each channel has an independent 3-band EQ and fader. Two decks, Auto Loop, Quantize and Beat Sync support your mix; Sample Launch and Jog Drum add to the performance features. Effects include Beat Effects with post-fader and Sound Color Filter.

Auto Mix can automatically mix tracks for transitions. You can record your sets directly to USB storage; recordings are saved as WAV at 16-bit/44.1 kHz. Via USB, the device supports MP3, AAC, WAV and AIFF, including files up to 24-bit/44.1 kHz. MP3 and AAC are supported for Wi-Fi playback.

As a USB audio interface, the XDJ-AERO-W operates at 24-bit and 44.1 kHz. It can also be used as a MIDI controller for Traktor and an HID controller for Virtual DJ. For connecting to a PA system, there are master outputs with 6.3 mm jack and RCA connections; two headphone sockets, in 6.3 mm and 3.5 mm sizes, make cueing easier with different headphones. A four-colour LCD displays information in 18 languages.

With its slim pearl-white casing and aluminium front panel, the system fits into compact DJ setups that combine wireless playback or USB playback with mixer, controller and audio interface functions. The choice of Wi-Fi, USB and external playback devices makes it well suited to mobile sets and smaller installations that require two channels, direct USB recording and the computer controls listed above.
