Numark X6

When turntables and line-level sources are connected to a compact scratch mixer, separate inputs and quick adjustments to the mix are essential. The Numark X6 is a digital 2-channel DJ mixer with scratch crossfader and 24-bit signal processing. It connects phono and line-level sources, a microphone or aux device, and also features an integrated effects processor.

Each of the two channels has a switchable phono/line RCA input and an additional line input. This lets you choose between a turntable and a line-level signal for each channel, and connect an additional line source. Gain, 3-band EQ and separate kill buttons for bass, mid and treble are available for both channels. For phono turntables with an earth wire, use the grounding terminals on the unit.

The microphone section accepts a microphone via a 6.3 mm jack or a line-level signal via the additional RCA aux input. Both inputs run through the same channel and are controlled by its gain, bass and treble controls, as well as its on/off switch. There is no separate EQ control for the mid range on the microphone channel.

The effects processor provides twelve assignable 24-bit effects, including Vocoder, Tape Echo, Echo, Flanger, Phaser, Filter and two reverb types. Use the Assign switch to choose whether the effect is applied to Channel 1, Channel 2, Mic/Aux or the master mix. Six effects are intended for the channels or the master, and six for Mic/Aux. The Tap button synchronises beat-synchronisable effects to the tempo; Rate/Frequency controls their speed or frequency. A Wet/Dry fader determines the effect level.

For transitions and scratch techniques, the crossfader curve can be adjusted continuously and reversed using the Reverse switch. The crossfader is replaceable. When cueing, you can select Master, the effects signal or either of the two channels using Cue mode; the Cue slider mixes Channels 1 and 2 in the headphones. A level indicator displays the programme level, while peak limiters protect the headphone and master outputs.

For connecting to a sound system, there is a balanced master output pair with 6.3 mm jacks and an unbalanced RCA master output. The RCA record output carries a pre-master-level signal and is suitable for connecting a recording device. Connect headphones via the 6.3 mm stereo output. Balanced master outputs are suitable for longer cable runs to a PA system or amplifiers.

The X6 is suited to DJ setups with two main channels, phono and line-level sources, a separate microphone or aux source, and integrated effects access. Scratch control and cueing are also catered for, along with balanced master outputs and a separate record output.
