When turntables, CD players and an iPod need to come together in a space-saving DJ setup, the integrated iPod dock keeps playback and recording directly on the mixer. The Numark iM1 is a compact 2-channel tabletop mixer that accommodates phono and line sources as well as a microphone.

Select the desired source for each channel and adjust the level with the gain and line fader. Use the treble and bass knobs to adjust the sound for each channel. The replaceable crossfader mixes the two channels at the master output; a separate cue slider lets you blend them in your headphones. This lets you preview the next track and prepare the transition before bringing it into the main mix.

Use the dock to play music from your iPod or record the programme mix on the device. To record, start the Voice Memos feature on your iPod. Playback and recording cannot take place at the same time: while playing a track from your iPod, you cannot record the mix on the same iPod.

The rear RCA inputs accept phono and line signals; grounding terminals are provided for turntables with a separate earth wire. Connect a microphone via the 6.3 mm input and adjust its level separately. The master output sends the stereo signal via RCA to active speakers, an amplifier or a PA system. The 6.3 mm headphone output is for previewing and monitoring the mix.

With its direct channel controls, iPod recording function and classic phono and line connections, the mixer suits compact DJ setups for vinyl, CD players and iPod. A power supply is included; the device is designed to operate with the supplied power supply.
