Numark DJ2Go2 Review
A few years ago, Numark introduced the useful and compact controller - the DJ2G0 - which is suitable either as a backup tool for sets or for traveling DJs who want to carry something in their backpacks. A perfect device for improvising or for some fun nights where a complete set-up is definitely out of the question. Now, Numark has revamped and updated the controller to version 2. Enter the DJ2G02 - Interesting!
Looks and Feel
Let's start with the aesthetics: the new version of the controller has a high-end feel and look and is promoted as a Serato DJ unit, shipped with a free version of Serato DJ Intro. The original DJ2G0 was tied to Virtual DJ and included a Lite version of that software.
Aside from these various options, DJs can use both the original and updated versions with any DJ software as long as they have MIDI integrations.
In fact, Numark offers on its website a Traktor MIDI mapping and various useful information for integrating the DJ2G02 with third-party DJ software - a nice touch. Numark has managed to equip the DJ2G02 with even more buttons and controls without losing clarity, making it compact enough to fit on a laptop.
Touch Me
The additional controls of the DJ2G02 fit perfectly with the Serato DJ feature set.
Searching and selecting tracks is easy - with the browse adjustment wheel, you can navigate through folders and music, then import tracks into the desired deck with one of the special buttons.
This group of buttons can be activated via the pad mode, allowing you to manage the hot cue section - programming up to four buttons per deck on the controller. The looping system can also be activated with pad mode via these four buttons, allowing you to choose between auto-looping and manual looping. In manual mode, the start and end points of each loop can be defined with a few clicks. Additionally, there's the sampler mode with up to eight samples that can be assigned via two banks of four buttons.
Despite its size, it really manages to grab the DJ's attention, allowing them to focus on the controller to access all functions through the device itself.
Processing
The DJ2G02 has a plastic housing, but, as mentioned earlier, it manages to convince with a professional appearance and conveys a sense of strength and reliability despite its lightweight, compactness, and ease of transport.
The miniature jog wheels allow spinbacks and also withstand heavier loads.
The crossfader is smooth, and the two pitch sliders, which close each section of the deck, are again firm and precise. Numark also managed to incorporate a sound card and a headphone output into the DJ2G02, making it completely independent of any interface.
The sound quality is good, and the volume is acceptable, allowing the user to connect it to a mixer or directly to a pair of speakers with RCA input via the included cables.
Conclusion
Numark has truly outdone itself with this new version of the DJ2G0, with more features and a striking aesthetic. The ideal add-on controller for any DJ.
