New Korg Volcas - Korg Volca Drum and Korg Volca Modular in Product Showcase

Korg introduced two new devices of their Volca series: the Volca Modular and the Volca Drum. The latter combines the existing Kick and Beats units as the third percussion synthesizer of the series with an improved editing screen and fully digital architecture, built-in sequencer, and touch keyboard technology.

Korg Volca Drum

Based on the demos and videos, it seems the Korg Volca Drum leans towards FM synthesis and combines it with a digital tube mode to beef up the sound. This allows for a greater amplitude than the other synthesizers we know in this field and can deliver twisted and unique sounds.

There are six different drum parts that can be overlaid for added depth.

Every parameter in the unit can be sequenced to achieve greater variation in the 16 steps. For even more variation, there's a Randomizer that can randomize either the drum layers or the part sequence.

Korg Volca Modular

In addition, Korg introduced the Volca Modular - a completely analog unit that expands the range of small synthesizers in the "West Coast Style" and makes it particularly interesting for sound explorers with its modular capabilities.

The modular unit features modular microports in eight different "modules" that allow the user to shape the sound as desired.

With the included patch cables, you have the opportunity to experiment with a total of 50 patch points to your heart's content. Color-coded inputs and outputs prevent mispatching and differentiate between audio, control, gate, or trigger signals.
