Product description Native Instruments Audio 4 DJ

With a DJ interface, separate signal paths and suitable inputs for turntables are essential. The Native Instruments Audio 4 DJ provides four inputs and four outputs and connects DJ software to an external mixer, playback devices or recording sources. The two input sections can be configured for Line, Phono or Control Vinyl signals.

The inputs can operate as two stereo pairs or four mono channels. For turntables, two phono preamps are integrated; an earth terminal is provided for connecting the turntable ground wire. You select the operating mode in the Settings Tool: Line is suitable for line-level sources, Phono for turntables and Vinyl Control for use with control vinyl.

The four outputs can also be configured as two stereo pairs or four mono channels. This lets you route separate software channels to an external mixer or effects unit. The front panel has a separately adjustable headphone output with a 6.3 mm jack socket. Eight status LEDs indicate the USB connection, selected input modes, signal activity and clipping.

The converters operate at up to 24 bit and 96 kHz; according to the product data, supported sample rates also include 44.1, 48 and 88.2 kHz. The interface is bus-powered via USB 2.0 and requires no additional power supply or batteries. Supported drivers include ASIO, Core Audio and DirectSound.

The stated software package includes TRAKTOR 3 LE and the KORE Player with a 600 MB sound pack. The listed system requirements refer to Windows XP with Service Pack 2, a Pentium or Athlon processor at 1.4 GHz or faster, 512 MB RAM and USB 2.0, as well as Mac OS X 10.4 with a G4 at 1.4 GHz or faster or an Intel Core Duo at 1.66 GHz or faster, also with 512 MB RAM and USB 2.0. These details describe the original system requirements; they do not indicate compatibility with current operating systems.

With its switchable input modes, independently usable outputs and headphone connection, the Audio 4 DJ is suited to DJ and recording setups that incorporate external equipment. For Control Vinyl and mixer setups, the phono preamps, four inputs and outputs, and USB power supply are particularly relevant.
