Mixvibes U-Mix DJ-Set

For practising on a computer or as a complement to a MIDI controller, software, headphone cueing and suitable headphones go together. The MixVibes U-Mix DJ set combines DJ software with a USB audio adapter and headphones; you can control it using a mouse and keyboard or a compatible MIDI controller.

The software works with two virtual decks and supports importing iTunes libraries. For transitions, it offers automatic tempo synchronisation as well as automatic and manual loops. The 16-pattern sampler and 14 sound effects complement the mixing functions; more than 40 MIDI controllers are compatible, including models from Hercules, Numark and MixVibes.

The USB 2.0 audio adapter provides a separate headphone output for cueing. In the intended configuration, the master signal runs through the computer’s internal sound card to the speakers, while the adapter powers the headphones. The closed-back, dynamic DJ headphones have soft ear cushions and a padded headband; the included adapter connects their 3.5 mm plug to 6.35 mm sockets.

The supplied software is documented for Windows XP, Vista and Windows 7. The manual lists a Pentium III at 1 GHz or equivalent processor, 512 MB RAM, a free USB port and storage space for music as minimum requirements; 1 GB RAM is recommended. The set is therefore suitable for a suitably equipped computer and for getting started with computer-based DJing using a mouse, keyboard or MIDI control.
