When recording vocals and instruments directly on a computer, the USB condenser microphone eliminates the need for a separate audio interface. The Marantz MPM-1000U is designed for podcast and DAW recording: it converts the microphone signal to digital internally and transmits it to the computer via USB.

The 14 mm back-electret capsule records with a cardioid polar pattern. Its orientation towards the sound source helps reduce the pickup of sounds arriving from the sides and rear. This can be useful when recording vocals in rooms that are not fully soundproofed; the specific recording environment remains a key factor.

The built-in A/D converter operates at 48 kHz and 16-bit. The digital signal is sent directly via USB to suitable recording or DAW software. The integrated driver supports plug-and-play operation, so no separate interface or additional microphone preamplification is required.
