M-Audio Torq Xponent

Torq Xponent is a comprehensive hardware/software combination that offers all the components needed for professional DJs to perform with a computer. Xponent functions simultaneously as a MIDI control surface and USB audio interface with four outputs, including two stereo RCA outputs and an adjustable headphone output for auditioning. Each of Xponent's controls offers a similarly robust design to that of good DJ hardware. If you are ready to jump into the world of computer-based DJing, Xponent will feel immediately familiar.

Full file and library compatibility

With Torq DJ software, you can create mixes with digital audio files in MP3, AIFF, WAV, WMA, Apple Lossless and AAC formats. You can pre-listen to tracks and adjust the tempo to each other. Torq also allows you to automatically build a song database including compatibility with your iTunes library. Here you can search for titles on your hard disk, catalog them continuously and select them efficiently.

Dynamic Performance

Djing is about the connection between DJ, music and audience. Previewing functions, tempo adjustment and even scratching - with the proven DJ tools you always have your music under control. Xponent has been equipped with a series of convenient controls that allow direct control over music playback at any time, allowing interaction with the audience.

With the Xponent Mixer you work just as sensitively and dynamically as with analog hardware. The CD players have their own touch-sensitive scratch wheels that let you not only scratch, but also speed up and slow down file playback. For perfect control of Torq, Xponent also adds 64 programmable backlit buttons (including Play, Cue, Seek, Loop, Key and Sync), two volume faders, eight assignable effect controls and two 100mm pitch faders. The built-in touchpad can replace the mouse or act as an assignable X/Y controller for effect control in Torq. So you never have to take your fingers off your control unit during performance. Level indicators and LEDs for song progress indicator round off the professional features.

Designed as a coherent combination

Torq automatically configures itself to work with Xponent on both Mac and PC. Each hardware control element is directly assigned to the corresponding pedant of the software. Working with Xponent is intuitive right from the start, as all controls are located exactly where you would expect them to be as a DJ. The transition to DJing with digital files couldn't be easier.

Beyond the hardware

Torq Xponent offers far more than a conclusive hardware/software combination. It allows the DJ set and live performance to move in completely new directions. VST compatibility and quick assignable controls let you transform your plug-ins into powerful performance tools. Call up a flanger, add modulations or create a feedback loop with a delay. All this with full control via the assignable Xponent controllers. The system also allows the creation of loops, recordings and even remixes while the system is running. In addition to controls for creating loops, Torq also includes a performance sampler with sixteen buttons and tempo adjustment. This allows you to create loops and samples at any time without ever getting out of sync.
