Product description M-Audio AIR 192/4

For recording vocals or instruments on a computer, you need connections for a microphone and an instrument, as well as a way to monitor without distracting latency. The 2-in/2-out USB audio interface M-Audio AIR 192/4 records up to two audio channels simultaneously at 24-bit and 192 kHz. An XLR/jack combo input and a separate Hi-Z instrument input cover typical single-source recordings.

You can connect a microphone, a line-level signal or a guitar or bass with an active pickup to the combo input. +48 V phantom power can be switched on for condenser microphones. Passive guitars and other high-impedance signals should be connected to the separate instrument input. LED meters display the input signals, so you can keep an eye on the recording level.

The USB/Direct Blend control mixes the direct signal from the inputs with the computer playback signal. This lets you monitor your signal directly while recording and hear the DAW mix at the same time. This works through both the headphone output and the two main outputs. You can adjust the monitor and headphone levels separately; the large central rotary control adjusts the monitor volume.

Audio and MIDI data are transferred to the computer via the USB-C connection; a USB 2.0 port or higher is required. The interface is powered via USB. It can also be connected via USB-A: both suitable cables are included. The stated round-trip latency of 2.59 ms depends on the buffer setting and computer hardware.

The software package includes Ableton Live Lite and MPC Beats, as well as instruments, effects and loop content. The software includes, among others, Xpand!2, Mini Grand, DB33, Strike, Hybrid 3, the Creative FX Collection Plus and ReValver. MPC Beats includes TubeSynth, Electric and Bassline, 80 effect plug-ins and 2 GB of factory content with an additional F9 Instruments Library; Touch Loops also contributes 2 GB of content.

With its metal housing, compact dimensions and Kensington lock slot, this model fits on a desk in a home or project studio. Microphone and instrument recording, direct monitoring and connections for headphones or active monitors are combined in one device – suited to solo setups where two simultaneous inputs are enough.
